Robert Pattinson's Fans Won't Like 'Cosmopolis', Co-Star Says

We will go see Rob in anything, but Jay Baruchel says many fans might be turned off. Will YOU still buy a ticket?

Robert Pattinson lovers are so excited to catch him in Cosmopolis, but his co-star says that Breaking Dawn fans may not like it!

Rob, 25, is the lead in quite a wild film, his co-star Jay Baruchel tells MTV News.

“[It's] an exceedingly strange movie,” he said. “All the Team Edward girls won’t be seeing this one, I don’t think.”

I think he’s making the right choice in doing movies that are varied, with roles that can show off his acting more than Twilight did. I love the saga, but I think he will really shine with more subtle, mature roles. It will be much better for his career not to fall into rom-coms or action movies, like many other actors his age.
A bit of distance from Twilight and big-budget ‘popcorn’ movies, going instead for the more risky indie or low-budget films, will give him the chance to show his critics that he is more than just a brand; a pretty face to put on posters and lunchboxes.
DiCaprio, Depp and Pitt all did smaller, riskier projects after their ‘big breaks’ in order to be taken seriously. I think Rob knows it’s important to make films you care about, not just ones that pay, to have a lasting career and the respect of the industry.

Good Morning to P,Jessie,Rabs,and Michelle,well you all said every thing that I would have said.I think a lot of people are going to be surprised when they see Cosmopolis,and how well Rob can play a villian..This role is not for tween twi harts to see.This is a adult movie,I will go and get the book because you all have me curious.Rob is taking his time in choosing roles that will suit him the best,I love indie ,sundance and movies from the cannes,some of the best movies I have saw came from them. Well Hello. Thanks for the kind reply. I always try and read up on what’s going on. I’ve always felt that I can relate to Rob. I think we have similar personalities. I hold a lot of respect for Robert and Kristen as well. Anyways the novel is really cool. Different and definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. The character is so strange he’s hard to describe. Put it this way he’s strange enough that he has to get a prostate exam everyday lol. When you read that part of the book you really don’t know how to feel. Am I supposed to feel comfortable that I’m turned on or weird.

Like..Come on!! I guess he might be talking of something right out of his alley. Twi-fans go from 7 y.o to 80 y.o (documented). An just because you like some teen-vampire-romance does not mean you do not like anything else.

Just see how Chris Weins acknowledge the power of twi fans for their interest in his after-twilight projects; that have nothing in common with Twilight and have all the support and interest from some fans.

Can’t wait to see it ! Read the book a while back , I’m kinda glad some of teen fans won’t like it , it means I will be able to enjoy the film without any interruptions . I however disagree with some comments about playing the vilain , as an actor you should be able to play any part , beside it’s a Cronenberg film I’m a fan of his work . That comment about Joaquin I disagree I have seen many of his movies and he doesn’t play that type of part that much . He’s a good actor but strange , so no comparison here .. Pattinson is quite sane and pretty smart so he’s taking his time in choosing the right material .I’m glad he’s not going the silly Rom-Com way because look at Matthew Mc Conaughey he lost his way in these silly movies but found his way back with Lincoln Lawyer .. Anyway once again he is not “Edward Cullen ” …. Also there is nothing wrong in doing smart indie films , the only pressure is to bring a great performance , not the concern of box office take and screaming teenagers …

Not all of Robs fans are teens. I’m Rob’s age. First off I’m a fan of his and not just his character Edward Cullen. Plus Cosmopolis is one of my favorite books. The book is so raw and edgy that I’m excited to see the film. I think for whatever reason people like to believe that he only has a teen following. That’s not true. Rob is going blow people away in this role. The book is so raw and edgy in so many ways. It’s not romantic sexy but sexy in its own edgy way. Eric is a selfish neurotic but realistic person. That’s the genius is that there’s nothing heroic about him. So excited. I’d like to choose a part of the book that I’m excited too see but there’s so many. Plus I don’t want to ruin it for those that haven’t read the novel. If you haven’t it’s a really good novel.

Fans won’t like cosmopolis, fans won’t like Bel Ami! Fans won’t like this or that! Did Rob get a manual on ‘how to lose fans in 10 movies’ or something?! I think what’s important is that Rob should play out the characters he choses very well. This will further prove his talent as an actor. However playing the villain all the time will get him nowhere. It may be just acting but we love the drop-dead-gorgeous-heroic-rescue-a-damsel-in-distress types. Rob, be careful not to always play the bad guy,else u’ll soon find your self retiring early like Joaquin Phoenix who liked weird roles.

I agree a hundred percent with rabs.Very well written by the way. i love rob and I will go see his movies. But he should be carefull. He would not want to be type cast as a villian all the time. Because we all know he can play any roll he would want.

I have read the book and I will defiantly see it but I won’t be taking my 9 year old (as I did to Breaking Dawn). Cosmopolis is not for kids.

Absolutely I will go see Cosmopolis!

I am a fan of David Cronenberg’s work, a huge fan of Rob’s, so of course I’ll go see this film. I think doing this movie was a brilliant move for Rob, to break free from the franchise that gave him his start but then nearly smothered him. Many Twilight fans still don’t understand that Rob isn’t Edward (hence the craziness over him and Kristen) but personally I prefer Rob’s work in Remember Me and Water For Elephants; I became a fan because of those more than Twilight. Or maybe I should qualify that; I liked him in Twilight, but frankly, I’ve had enough of Edward. It’s been five films, and I want to see him as different characters.

I really want to see Bel Ami. And there are a lot of fans like me, we’re not all screaming Twilight 13 year olds, you know. And HL, didn’t you see that survey MTV did? Cosmopolis was the movie the fans all wanted to see most. Where have you guys been?

Amen sister. I’m a 26 year old Robert fan.Theres something very special about Robert. A special twinkle in his eyes. He brings something old Hollywood to films. Haven’t seen anything like that in my lifetime. He’s good in in the Saga but incredible in Remember Me and Water for Elephants. He’s going to have his spotlight moment pretty soon. All the fans that stood by him from the beginning will say we told you so. I see it. It’s that twinkle that James Dean had. He also reminds me of a young Marlon Brando. He’s such an incredibly charming and humble man that I can’t wait to see. The underdog that is going blow people away.

I agree with him. Cosmopolis will be difficult to understand, will be full of sex and Roberts nudity. So it will be shock for young fans. Anyway, anybody has a script for this movie?

My understanding is that the director is using the dialogue from the novel. That’s what makes it so exciting. I can just imagine some of the dialogue coming to life.
