Lucy Liu Cast As Joan Watson In CBS' Sherlock Holmes 'Elementary' Pilot

In a spectacular twist to the original Arthur Connan Doyle classic, the legendary Watson is switching genders from male to female as Lucy Liu joins fellow lead Jonny Lee Miller in a new look Sherlock Holmes drama called ‘Elementary.’

It’s obvious those in the casting department share the same brilliance of Lucy Liu‘s ultra-intelligent character, Joan Watson, and we can’t wait to see how awesome this new Sherlock Holmes-inspired show will become.

Our sister site, Deadline.com, has reported the twists don’t end with the change of sex. The series will also be set in present day and will also star Jonny Lee Miller as Sherlock Holmes, a former consultant to Scotland Yard, whose addiction problems led him to a rehab center in New York City.

After getting his life back together, he starts living in Brooklyn with Joan Watson, who has problems of her own. Some would say this is a match made in heaven!

So HollywoodLifers, how great do you think Lucy Liu will be as Joan Watson? We think it’s brilliant!

No, no, no. This is awful. They’ll just end up as a couple which is NOT what Sherlock Holmes is about. At all. Maybe it could be interesting if Holmes was portrayed as a woman too, but in all honesty I don’t think that would work either. Just leave it alone, CBS.

what in good god is THIS? i’m sorry, but as a hardcore purist fan of the original novels and diehard fan of BBC’s Sherlock, this is a blatant money grab of which CBS should be ashamed of. with the latest season of Sherlock becoming explosively sucessful, this is a rather pathetic attempt at bringing in cash on the latest Holmes wave of popularity. if CBS was really smart, they’d cancel this show before it sinks like the Titanic. they’d save a LOT of money and an inkling of reputation if they did so.

Sorry, but this version of Holmes and Watson will be crap. For your information, watch”Sherlock” a more-modern-day telling of the Doyle books starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes and Martin Freeman as Watson. You can see it on BBC America or PBS.

This version that you are looking forward to will be homogenized and Americanized and will also be an imitation, possibly of Castle. Try “Sherlock” and see if “Elementary” will be any better than it.

I agree with Jimbo and cam_lou. I’ve been watching Sherlock on bbc since it aired several years ago. It’s an excellant show.
