Derek Hough Vs. 'Dance Moms' Feud — He Calls The Show 'Child Abuse'

The ‘Dancing With The Stars’ pro SLAMS ‘Dance Moms’ in a Twitter rant! He is horrified at how kids on the controversial Lifetime show are being treated!

On Lifetime’s Dance Moms, teacher Abby Lee Miller will go to any extreme to turn the young girls she teaches into dancers. Now Dancing With The Stars pro Derek Hough slams her drill sergeant method in a Twitter rant. “I’m sorry, but this Dance Mom show is straight up abusive,” he wrote. “Kids run!”

“It ain’t right,” he continued. “Child abuse isn’t right. I’m livid right now. I believe in discipline and a strong work ethic. But there is nothing productive about screaming and making little girls cry over being on the wrong foot.”

Abby teaches students between the ages of six and 13, but she sees nothing wrong with screaming at the youngsters or hitting a student with a foam baseball bat!

Derek’s co-star Mark Ballas was also outraged at the teacher’s behavior. “This lady is crazy,” he wrote on Twitter. “Completely wrong attitude towards the kids, it embarrassing. Horrific tactics. Correct teaching is patience, discipline, confidence building and love. She needs a reality check.”

Mark added that he switched off the show after only watching for 15 mintues! “Only reason I wld watch is concern 4 the kids, she needs 2 B fired.”

What do YOU think of Abby’s behavior? Is it abuse? Should she be fired?

Okay seriously it is a TV show no one is going to sit and watch a dance instructor be patient and calm telling the girl what foot to be on they want to see screaming and throwing chairs. Come on people today only care about drama and unethical tactics. its truly sad that anyone even takes this show seriously, its completely fake and its so obvious. Only a stupid person would believe that a sane person would allow child abuse to be aired on the channel.

75.05% say it isnt child abuse, seriously how is it not the poor kids are exploited. they are painted up and dressed up like hookers then thrown on a stage to dance infront of millions of people, not to mention the way Abby treats them she is harsh and tries to beat into their minds that winning is all that matters, that it’s not ok to lose. and now she has them dressed up in nude colored bikinis. Sorry this show just enrages me.

ALDC was in bankruptcy before this show started. To confirm, just google ALDC or Abby Lee Miller.

why do you let that happen to your child?!?!? you should be punished for putting her through this abusive training. i dont care how good of a dancer she is, there are very successful people that were trained in a non abusive way and look where they are?

you should be ashamed of yourself.

Here’s why. Reality TV feeds off of drama. Look at nearly every other reality TV program currently in existence, and name me even ONE that doesn’t thrive in viewership and media buzz by any means other than conflict and drama. As a media literacy activist, I urge everybody watching to think about this seriously. This CAN’T be the only way to produce good television. We deserve better.

Agreed.

And what’s more, at the end of the day, it’s not even about producing quality dancers. It’s about producing quality PEOPLE. Consider how many dancer are out there who society (and by extension Abby) would deem professional, successful dancers who in actuality are emotionally crushed for the rest of their lives?! Is it really, truly worth it? Is this style of teaching (and in some cases parenting) worth the title of professional? These above quoted professionals don’t seem to think so.

There is a reason they call her “THE BEST” If you dont like it then dont watch her show. I love that show and agree with Abby that if they dont like it they can leave. She will continue to use the tactics that work and make her girls winners and lets face it….They win ALOT!!! Stop hating on Abby Lee. She gets the job done! If I lived where ever they did and had a daughter who wanted to dance…I would take her to the best, and the best is the Abby Lee Dance Company!

you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

just imagine how many super talents abby could “produce” if she took a more positive and therefore productive approach. im pretty sure lots of girls dont reach their full potential because of the way abby treats them.

abby is a bully. she seems to resent her own failure as a dancer and tries desperately to live through her little girls. these kids are crying more than theyre laughing. this cannot be productive. they shouldnt be scared and nervous to perform because they might disappoint ms abby, they should be excited! all these girls get besides great technique is the feeling of never being good enough.

“everyones replaceable” is abbys slogan. too bad the moron mothers of these girls dont pick up on it and replace that horrid woman. abby might be a chinese style teacher but really, the responsibility here lies with the parents.

Eighty percent of the competitions are “invitational,” staged for the show. Again, please look it up. Most are contracted with In10sity Dance. Youtube is a good source of information and videos of real winners in real competitions.
