The 39-year-old actor says he wants to be a good example to his little girls!
Ben Affleck and his wife Jennifer Garner are expecting their third child soon, but he’s already inspired by his daughters Violet, 6, and Seraphina, 3, to be a great dad! “I got to a point in my life where I felt like I had been very fortunate,” he tells People. “And I wanted to do something more with my life than just make movies and try to make money. I wanted to do something that was important to me in other ways and would serve as an example to my kids.”
Motivated to set that good example, he founded the Eastern Congo Initiative in 2010 and recently returned from his eighth trip to the region. The nonprofit helps support Congolese-led organizations rebuild the area — and his fans can follow along on his Facebook Timeline. The Timeline marks his first foray with social media, and it’s an amazing way his fans can get an inside look at his inspiring work.
“The people there are working as hard as they can do to make their lives better,” says Ben. “And that’s inspiring.”
Ben hopes his work will teach the girls to help others, too. “I tell them it’s important to be involved in the world in ways that help others and not just yourself,” he says.
