Whitney Houston’s on her way home, says her family. The official invite for her burial event is being referred to as a ‘home going’ service — not a funeral.
“With heartfelt gratitude, the Houston Family requests the honor of your presence at the home going service for Whitney Elizabeth Houston,” reads the invite.
“Home going” services are well-known in the African-American community and take on a more celebratory tone than traditional funerals. The ceremony is about honoring the dead as they leave this earth to be with their Maker, reports TMZ.
The 48-year-old pop icon’s ceremony will be held at The New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, NJ, with many A-listers in attendance. It’ll be streamed live starting at noon ET on Saturday, Feb. 18.
Whitney will be buried next to her father, John Russell Houston, Jr., at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, NJ.
