Robert Pattinson's 'Bel Ami' Getting Bad Reviews — Oh No

Bel Ami Reviews

What do the critics know, anyway? We’re still so excited to see his big new movie!

Robert Pattinson‘s new film Bel Ami is finally getting released, but reviews of the movie are pretty scathing!

Rob, 25, may have picked a stinker of a project that does not showcase his skills, if the less-than-enthusiastic reviews are to be believed.

IndieWIRE did the unthinkable and went after Rob himself.

“Pattinson himself is a problem as Duroy,” the review read. “He displays the character’s ruthlessness adequately and his wolfish smile is a useful weapon in his regard. But he seems ill-at-ease in terms of playing a period role. It’s not that he’s a bad actor, but he looks very much a contemporary young man in a historical context; his body language is too casual and informal for the social circles in which Duroy makes his moves.”

No better is a review from British film magazine Sight & Sound.

“If Bel Ami occasionally feels airless and overly art-directed that may partly reflect the period it’s set in, but also the directors’ over indulgence in facial close-ups,” the review reads. “It’s almost as though they didn’t trust their actors to express emotions in mid-shot – the last thing you’d expect from theatre directors. This does Robert Pattinson as Bel Ami no favours, since in close up his face tends to lapse into the bovine, but at further remove he gives an alert amusedly insinuating performance.”

Will you still go see Bel Ami, HollywoodLifers?

Geez Louise…There’s a lot of emotion spilling out in this comment section today! For me, if a critic says a movie is garbage, I’m sure to go see it. Critics have very little in common with the common man…I’m sure Rob is just “killed” over these critic’s reviews. LOL! I’ll bet he’s crying all the way to the bank! Let’s face the truth, shall we? He works to make money to be able to afford what he really wants to do in his spare time. Whether it’s home, family, music, golf, whatever, Rob P. has already made enough to do whatever he wants to do with the rest of his life! Leave him alone! He’s managed to parlay his own simple package into a lot of something. We should all do as well as he has. I’ll be banking on Pattinson…
