'American Idol' Recap: The Flu Strikes & People Drop Like Flies

American Idol Hollywood Week

They weren’t joking in the commercials! The flu really did wipe out a huge portion of the contestants during Hollywood Week this season!

In all of the past 10 seasons, I’ve never been more entertained by Hollywood Week than I was tonight. There’s something so amusing about watching people barf and carry on with their singing…especially on American Idol.

I know that sounds mean, but it was bizarre watching the flu catch on so quickly. Of course, I’ve seen it in movies and sitcoms, but never in real life like that. It started out innocently enough. The girl who lives in a tent was sitting in a corner, groupless and sweating like a beast with what looked to be a 100+ fever. She could barely stand to go talk to the other contestants and find a group.

Somehow her flu was so contagious that several other contestants fell under the weather in a matter of hours. Even though they were all in different groups, it seemed like everyone had the same symptoms: nausea, fever, weakness and fatigue. One guy even had to pass a kidney stone (unrelated to the flu).

I cannot wait to see what happens next Wednesday when all of these flu-ridden singers perform for the judges. We’ve already seen the paramedics a few times…will they be recurring characters this season?

What did you think of the group night at Hollywood Week? Who are you rooting for?
