Chris Brown: Why Did You Tweet A Middle Finger On The 3-Year Anniversary Of Your Rihanna Attack

Wed, February 8, 2012 9:20pm EDT by 36 Comments

Chris Brown — what are you thinking? Why would you post a snarky tweet almost three years to the day after you beat up your then girlfriend Rihanna? It makes you look terrible!

Chris Brown — have you not learned any lessons in the last three years. You were arrested. You pled guilty to one count of felony assault and you were sentenced to a year of domestic violence classes and 1,400 hours of community service. All of which you have completed. Plus, you publicly apologized many times for your actions and have vowed to be a better person.

So why would you choose the evening of Feb. 7 to tweet this: “Middle finger in full effect today!!! LOL”

How I read this is that you’re giving the middle finger to the authorities who arrested and convicted you, which would be completely and utterly inappropriate. After all, what you did to Rihanna was abusive and it was just plain wrong — no excuses.

Now, if that’s not who you’re giving the middle to and instead you’re giving your finger to all the people who said, you’d never make a comeback from that terrible moment, then I can understand your defiance.

I can understand that you’re angry at people who wrote you off and said that you couldn’t reform yourself and couldn’t be a professional successful again.

You HAVE proved them wrong. You’ve worked very hard . Your Twitter motto is “everyday is a new beginning” and your 2011 F.A.M.E. album was a new beginning  for you– proving to be a great success.

You’ve even mended fences with Rihanna, who had a court ordered restraining order modified so that the two of you can be physically close again if you want.

Symbolically — you also have a big moment this Sunday, Feb. 12th — you’ll be performing at the Grammys for the first time in three years since you battered Rihanna.. on the eve of the Grammys in 2009.

So why would you want to mess up all the positive perceptions that you’ve worked so hard to recreate.

Tweeting that you’re giving the middle finger to anyone today was a bad idea and the only one it hurts, is you!

OMG! Shutttt up for Christ sake! We’re in 2012 this happened 2009 … What all of you get the oppurtunity to forget your’ll past and he doesn’t? He’s a normal human being just like us and deserves a chance start fresh. I mean as wrong as I may sound he’s not the first guy to beat a girl and he won’t be the last! There’s nothing right in domestic abuse.. I’m not promoting it in anyway but shut up already!!!

It is because of people that enable and look up to this little punk that he is still relevant today. He is such a jerk and it is horrifying that people support him after what he did. It is not funny and it is unforgivable because his apologies are not sincere and he never showed any remorse for his actions. Shame on the public!

Liz, why do you people always try to call others who do not agree with your verbally abusing Chris Brown ways enablers of his behavior? When Chris Brown did what he did, I voice my opinion against it on numerous sites, but now that is not the subject at hand. This is about journalists who wants to reach and touch something but are always reaching for something that is not there to be reached. No one knows why Chris Brown through up his middle finger but Chris Brown and who that gesture was meant for. What Chris Brown did 3 years ago was a horrible thing. The best thing Chris Brown can do is not do that again and try to become a better man. The best thing Rihanna could have done for herself and Chris Brown is turn him in. Hopefully Rihanna will not get herself into another relationship like that again and hopefully Chris Brown’s first, one and only time of him putting his hands on a woman will be his last. To be honest with you, I was shocked to hear Chris Brown did that and I was even more surprised by his age. I did not know he was that young or should I say still a teenager. The songs these kids sing and the way they carry themselves on television, you just could never know their age. I said all kinds of horrible things about Chris Brown, but when I found out his age, I still believe in what I said but I would have put a whole lot of finesse into it. Because to me age is more than a number. While females on average tend to mature mentally before males, males don’t began to contemplate maturity until they are at the age of 25, that is just my opinion based on my personal experiences around young males. That is not an excuse for what Chris Brown did, but mature, strong men need to get a hold of these boys as soon as possible to teach them how to be gentlemen.

OMG really? Like I am sure he was NOT thinking he beat up his ex girlfriend three years ago so the post was gonna be for her. He was probably having a moment and posted that. Why do some people get so stuck in the past? I can see it now… ten years from now he will post something on that day and people will be like Oh he’s dissing her again, blah blah blah GET OVER IT! lol

You must not have a man! Why is their love life so relevant?? Some people talk so damn much and would react the same if they were in his or her shoes. Just shut the hell up. The whole issue shoulld be DEAD already! Grow up and find something important to do instead of bashing someone who doesn’t know or care about u! Ugggh!!

Wow. I laugh at this. Chris Brown ALREADY made a comeback. Everyone is always judging his tweets. Leave him alone! So WHAT if he raises the middle finger? Unless you KNOW for sure its about rihanna then you shouldn’t critiscize. 3 Years ago! Damn. Why is everyone holding onto that incident? Yeah. He made a mistake. Get over it. Forreal -.-

Bonnie needs to hush. He was probably tweeting about something totally different and just didn’t realize how people might have perceived it as at the time. Unless he wrote something like “F U @Rhianna #MiddleFinger” I’m going to say he was talking about something else. What is he supposed to do, sit around and feel bad all the time. They seem to be getting along all right and she isn’t moping around. Just Chill!

i think she should not have done that because he is trying to get over the whole situation but he just keep making people remember, like why he said he wants to perform at the grammy’s, to get people to forget, well chris people won’t forget if you continue to talk about it yourself and do stupid things like a middle finger in full effect, it doesn’t help to rebuild your image

this is the exact reason that he doesnt tweet as much as he used to because of bloggers like you who take his tweets, make them a headline, and take it out of contest… not everything has to do with rihanna

He’s probably giving the middle finger to people who are gonna come up to him and go “Oh you know its 3 years since you hit Rihanna!?” This is really getting old now and websites like this are dragging it on. Grow up.

These articles are written by adults who are pretending to be ‘tweeners. They’re written as if the person writing them has an 8th-grade writing level, as well as the mentality of a 12-year-old, but everything done here is very calculated. These are very smart adults pretending to be dumb. This site is intended to be viewed by junior high school girls. That is the target audience. It is the Tiger Beat of celebrity gossip websites. Sometimes they write highly emotional, non-sensical articles, but they do it on purpose.

It’s obvious a CHILD wrote this in the hopes of getting attention. I hope you can understand that Rihanna and Chris Brown are friends, and that no matter how the media spins it, they will always be connected in one form or the other. This farce of an article can go on for as long as it wants, but I will pick up a copy of his album, and tune in to see him on the grammy’s.

desperate for a story, are we? Chris tweeted this YESTERDAY DURING HARD REHEARSALS. Are you guys just wanting news, or are you guys just so filled with evil and hate that you have to start rumors? WOW. Pathetic attempt at a story when the young man is scheduled to make a huge comeback at the Grammy’s. REALLY desperate!

What the f*ck is the problem with people picking on chris brown it is not going to hurts his image. Chris brown is a changed man he is not like that anymore it was three years ago get over it and move on. Any ways nobody should be mad at chris brown he is a wonderful singer and make music for us who are his true fans. To the haters you don’t know a damn thing about chris brown so who gives you the right to judge and munipulate him so leave him alone.

Your looking for something that’s not there. Do you know how many things he could’ve been putting his middle finger up to? There are many different reasons that couldve caused him to say that…………

I really think you are looking for something that is not there. This is the reason he hardly ever tweets anymore. It could have meant anything, he could have been referencing M.I.A. at the superbowl, or he could have had a bad day rehearsing or he could have just felt like tweeting. He has moved on, I am sure he didn’t wake up and say “Hey, this is the anniversary of me beating Rihanna, let me tell all the haters to F*** off” No one thinks like that but the media. It doesn’t matter what he says there will always be someone to bring up the “incident”. He could have tweeted “it’s a beautiful day” and someone would have said he is too happy and he is showing not remorse for what he did. I honestly feel YOU and people like you are just waiting for him to F*** so you can say I told you so and since he is not giving any interviews you make things up. Please stop disecting every word this young man says or tweets. Let him life his life without having to watch everything little thing he does. It is TIME the media, haters, and everyone else let Rhianna and Chris heal and move on.
