M.I.A. Blames Super Bowl Middle Finger On 'Adrenaline And Nerves'

M.I.A. is ‘sorry,’ according to a close source — so why won’t she apologize herself?

Did Madonna even perform during the Super Bowl halftime show? We can’t remember, because all anyone cares about how is that M.I.A. whipped out her middle finger during “Give Me All Your Luvin’.” Though the rapper has yet to release an official statement about the incident, the UK’s Daily Mail credits a member of M.I.A.’s team as saying it was just “a case of adrenaline and nerves. She wasn’t thinking. It wasn’t any kind of statement. She was caught in the moment and she’s incredibly sorry.”

Meanwhile, both NBC and the NFL has already profusely apologized for the incident — simultaneously blaming each other for the slip.

“There was a failure in NBC’s delay system,” says NFL Vice President of Communications Brian McCarthy. “The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing, and we apologize to our fans.”

NBC’s response?

“The NFL hired the talent and produced the half-time show. Our system was late to obscure the inappropriate gesture and we apologize to our viewers.”

Who cares…..it could have been worse. Most wouldn’t have noticed if they hadn’t of made such a big deal about it. Kids should have been in bed at this time anyhow…when I was a kid…bedtime was 7pm on a school night! Kids wouldn’t have noticed this anyhow. Whether she did it on purpose or not…at least she didn’t strip on stage. A middle finger is not going to traumatize anyone, and if it does, then you probably need psychiatric help.

What M.I.A. did at the super bowl was a pathetic attempt at attention. It was a childish and pitiful thing to do. Even if she blames it on adrenaline, it just proves what kind of person she really is … so sad. I hope they fine her, and forget about her.

You’re wrong Amy. It has a meaning, a pretty vile meaning. It was wrong of her. It was an arrogant and selfish thing to do. No, she didn’t start world war III or murder someone. No one is saying it’s on that level. But it contributes to the coursing values our kids grow up with.

If you like her a lot as a performer, do her a favor and let her know that, as well as that you were really disappointed in her for what she did.

It’s really the height of disrespect.

This is HILARIOUS! Does anybody else see the irony in this? There is a picture of M.I.A. here with a star over her middle finger (clearly censored) and to the right is an advertisement under “news & gossip pics” of Lindsay Lovehandles in lingerie bent over with her thong showing. NO WONDER OUR COUNTRY IS IN A DEPRESSION. NO WONDER NOBODY NOTICED WHEN OBAMA SIGNED THE NDAA!! Some of you people need to wake up because there are bigger things to worry about than some girl’s finger in the air.

Have you ever listened to this woman’s work?? She crusades for peace and critisizes the goverments of countries where she could be killed instead of singing about sex or other worthless junk like Madonna and most entertainment!! She is a genius who cares about more than shock! So what she flipped the bird??? You see that everyday on the streets. Why doesn’t society as a whole ever take responsibility instead of piling all of their guilt on ONE person! It’s insane!

Madonna doesn’t sing about worthless junk. Yes, most of her songs are love songs (read: love, not sex; about half of songs on the Erotica album were about love), oh, and that’s right, also about things like, you know, gay rights, AIDS, domestic violence, war…sorry, but you picked the wrong target. Madonna has often sung about and for/against various political movements, just like your idol MIA.

Not only should MIA apologize but there should be fines levied by the FCC and the NFL against her. This was a performance for a national television audience and not a concert that people paid to see MIA, to perform however she wanted. How unprofessional and inappropriate and I hope other organizations considering performances with MIA in it rethink that decision and cancel her.

Yeah everyone uses the finger BUT not in front of 100+ million people including kids. She cant even say “sorry” it was no accident, just the type of loser she is PERIOD. She is a no named singer that just wanted attention. Now i hope she loses everything from this and this stunt back fires on her, which it will. Say goodbye to her little career she had, time to flip burgers at McD’s or go one welfare and food stamps so us tax payers can pay for that also. It’s not even that serious. Get over yourselves.
Most of the commercials seen during the super bowl were of a sexual nature, I didn’t hear anyone complaining. There are more important things to worry over, for me a middle finger isn’t one of them.

Jack, if you’re so concerned about what children are watching then you’ve got it all wrong. A middle finger during a football game is not nearly as damaging as Janet’s exposed breast some years ago. She got exactly what she wanted…how many of you even knew she existed before Sunday? I think the world should send a statement and she should be M.I.A. from any future venues. PERIOD. Every year this whole Superbowl halftime show has become a place to showcase for controversy. Why don’t they bring in someone that sings from the heart instead of from the wallet? Sad. Another idea, write the contract in such a manner that states if you or any of your crew screws up and escalates the show beyond a specified rating, not only do you not get paid, but you have to pay for the airtime. If you want to make it an advertisement, then pay like everyone else.

If she is so sorry, why did she also say profanity that was heard over the air and why did she do it. She owes EVERYONE, including the NFL and Madonna, an apology. It was uncalled for and just because she is on stage-she does not have the license to act inappropriately. Did she realize that teenagers also watch this program?
