In his darkest days, Daniel would show up to the ‘Harry Potter’ set under the influence.
Daniel Radcliffe‘s post-Harry Potter career is booming. The British import is coming off a successful run in the Broadway revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and his new film The Woman in Black opens in theaters today, Feb. 3. But in a new interview with the British celebrity magazine Heat, the Harry Potter star opens up about a time in his life when his drinking was so out of control that he would report to work drunk from the night before.
“I can point to many scenes where I’m just gone,” he tells the magazine. “Dead behind the eyes. I have a very addictive personality. It was a problem.”
The actor, who made a nightly activity of throwing back whisky until he would black out, stresses that he never consumed alcohol while on set.
Daniel realized he had a problem long before he decided to make his private battle with alcohol addiction public, and he swore off alcohol for good in August 2010. “Stopping has shown me a world of happiness that I didn’t think was possible,” he says.
We admire Daniel for being so candid about his struggle with addiction, and we couldn’t be happier that he’s turned his life around. We know he has a long and successful career ahead of him!

it’s hard to believe that this guy who comes off as so squeaky clean was abusing alcohol. does he have a supportive family? these kids’ families are never in the picture. in any case, the true measure of a person’s character is not how they behave when they are on top, but how they behave when they are down— we didn’t know he was down, but if in fact he was, that he pulled himself out says volumes about his character.
