Flex Mussels is a top seafood restaurant in New York City, and a recent trip to their West Village location proves that they are second to none for a delicious night out on the town!
Opened by Bobby, Laura and their daughter Alexandra Shapiro after the success of their uptown location, we went in with high expectations — and we were NOT disappointed.
An appetizer standout was the mouthwatering Salmon Tartare, which was delicate yet bursting with flavor.
But the main attraction was undoubtedly the mussels, which were perfectly cooked and intriguingly seasoned. Boasting an array of unique flavors, perhaps the most delicious was the Bombay, prepared with a tangy mix of curry, garlic and cinnamon. It’s a bold blend of flavors that will shift your perception of modern seafood.
A perfect complement to the mussels were the savory Flex Truffle Fries, a dynamic twist on a time-tested side.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night was dessert. We had been told in advance that The Flex Donut Collection was unbeatable, and we were not lead astray. Under the direction of chef Zac Young — who was a finalist on Top Chef: Just Desserts — the donuts are served with a light vanilla dipping sauce. It’s hard to pick favorites, but the salted caramel and PB&J picks really hit the spot. It was a whimsical end to a delightful meal.
