Designer Kara Janx is recapping the show each week, giving us a behind-the-scenes look at what it was really like competing in front of the cameras the second time around — and on the second episode she said the whole cast dealt with a major time crunch, trying to create a couture gown in just 24 hours!
So I can tell you that watching myself panic through the entire episode 2 is not exactly a thrill, but handing us a challenge to design a couture gown in less than 24 hours is not excatly thrilling either! Having an ‘All Star’ label means, in PR terms, giving them the impossible, but in HUMAN terms, it’s like running the NYC marathon in 1 hour! I was convinced at times that they were going to feed us scorpions for lunch, just to see if we have what it takes! OH, OK back to Lincoln Center and the Opera and running around Mood Fabrics, trying to have a ‘MAKE IT WORK’ moment.
Austin, (aka Liberace), is announced King (or Queen) of Couture, so we have already pegged him as the winner. From inside the workroom the air in the room is so thick you can cut through it with scissors. Michael is so phenomenal at draping, and I’m having an ‘OY VEY’ moment. April is dyeing or dying?? Sweet P, my dear Sweet P, I understand — the word ‘gown’ is very vague, while Anthony is feeling her GUURL. So we drape and sew, and handstitch and, well, PANIC! The editing this season definitely highlights the design process, which is great, but the time frame is not as easily understood — COUTURE IN A DAY?! Are they MAD?
Back to the cast of characters and we start to learn that no one is holding back on how they feel about each other’s gowns, and it’s onto the runway we go. I can honestly say that each All Star runway show is spectacular! Cut to the chase, I am face-to-face with the incredible duo Badgley Mischka and they are just as divine and charming as their fashion house. We fight for our lives…..
Sweet P and April land themselves at the bottom — and it’s ruthless and scary. My best girl Sweet P is sent packing, and I am left in shock — relieved and happy, knowing the Judges actually loved the gown — Mazeltov!!
Austin, Michael and Anthony, all 3 princesses, blew away the judges with their gowns made for the high society of NYC. Austin walks away with the Oscar (or was that his model?). Either way, congrats my love — and good thing we are not in the land of auf wiedersehen and we live to tell the tale, until next week, whooooo, I need a Xanax!!
