Co-Sleeping Baby Death

A Utah couple’s three-month-old was suffocated to death while sleeping in bed with his parents. It gets worse — this is the SECOND child to die in their bed! The doctors warned them not to co-sleep!

The Utah Court of Appeal upheld the child abuse charges against Trevor Merrill and Echo Nielsen after their son Kayson Merill died in 2006 from suffocating in their bed, according to The Daily Mail. Their 24-day-old daughter died the SAME exact way in 2006, but they obviously didn’t learn!

The baby was put to sleep on his back, but found dead on his stomach. Too young to roll over himself, the infant stopped breathing. Because a daughter had died three years earlier from the same accident, judges ruled that she knew the risks.

The couple was charged with child-abuse homicide and reckless endangerment, and they plead not guilty.

“The allegation is these defendants had been told not to sleep with the child and chose to sleep with the child, and as a result the child is dead,” Salt Lake County District Attorney Lohra Miller told KSL.com. “Co-sleeping is a very dangerous thing to do. Many young parents are told this over and over again by their doctors, that they shouldn’t sleep with their child in the bed.”

I think this is bulls*it. Lots of parents co-sleep with their young children and you don’t ever hear tell of this happening…but yet it happens twice to them. If you accidentally lose a child this, would you really take that risk again with another child?? I’m guessing they probably killed both babies purposely and use this for an excuse. They figured they got away with it the first time..
It’s just a theory anyway, but I definitely think there is more to the story.

my problem is they plead not guilty wtf their are reasons mom and dad are guilty they should say it. it’s called taking responsibly if i did this i would plead guilty mom dad your the reason why those babies are dead if you want them to be close to you put their bed next yours.

You know, I can’t judge them at all. It just is heartbreaking that they lost two children.

Seriously? If I accidently killed my baby while co-sleeping, you can bet your butt that I wouldn’t be co-sleeping ever again. Common sense people, common sense!

This is a hard one as a mom that co slept but if it had killed my first child i would have had the common sence to admit that i am too heavy of a sleeper to have a tiny baby next to me.
