Designer Kara Janx is recapping the show each week, giving us a behind-the-scenes look at what it was really like competing in front of the cameras the second time around!
Okay, so here is the scoop: while I fretted and waited, and fretted and waited some more, Project Runway All-Stars finally started, AMEN!
I can say with complete certainty that what once started out as a little fashion competition in the infancy of reality television has grown into a national obsession and has forever changed my life, swearing off the very idea that I would never EVER put myself though Project Runway again, (or boot camp, bikini camp, HELL, whatever form of torture you can conjure up)! Well….
The show gets going when we all arrive in NYC without the vaguest idea of who is going to be on the show, and believe you me this psyched us all out. Meet-greet, love-love, we then have a mini fashion show, where we are completely convinced that we are going to have to tear our garments to pieces and make an outfit in 10 minutes — they seriously have us by the balls at this point!
Introduction to Georgina Chapman, Isaac Mizrahi and Angela Lindvall and we are just relieved to have lived through the first 10 minutes, found out the prize, and now back to PANIC! Sweating bullets and praying that the judges like our aesthetic, we all smile like Chesire cats in the hopes our personalities will win them over, AS IF! So off we go have a quick TV intro to the INCREDIBLE Valentino and Giammetti, and Voila we know we have arrived, Holla…cut to 10 seconds later, we have our challenge, supplies and we are ready to face the music. Sadly, they skip the better part of us sewing, cutting, freaking out, not a single word was spoken in those first few hours, cause believe you me, EVERYBODY was thinking “what the HELL am I doing back here?”
Meet the effervescent Joanna Coles, editor-in-chief of Marie Claire, I swear to claw anyone that wants to take the prize of guest editor away from me. Music…Ken Downing, illustrious director of Nieman Marcus, side note: I sell there:) Fashion, fashion…Safe…IN…OUT — so who made the cut?
Rami takes top honours, great job, while Mondo and Jerrell follow. Elisa, (cherry picking and hot apple spice-fairy dust and beautiful moon shine), sadly bites the dust, Sweet P is IN (Thank g-d I LOVE her, we are real besties in real life) and Gordana, (who is still thinking, ‘what the hell am I doing here?”), are safe!
I can tell you this, it only gets funnier, crazier and more intense…so in the good ‘ol days of Project Runway and Bravo TV, you better WATCH WHAT HAPPENS!
