Teen Mom Sarah McKinley Shot And Killed A Home Intruder To Protect Her Baby

An 18-year-old mom, whose husband died on Christmas Day, had to be the ultimate protector for her infant son on New Year’s Eve when an armed man invaded their home!

Teen mom Sarah McKinley lost her husband on Christmas Day to lung cancer, and she was left to take care of their three-month-old son by herself. On New Year’s Eve, she proved she was more than capable for the challenge! According to ABCNews.com, the young mom shot and killed a man trying to break into her house with a 12-inch hunting knife!

The intruder turned out to be a man named Justin Martin, who Sarah believes was stalking her. A week after Sarah’s husband’s funeral, Justin stopped by the house late in the evening and introduced himself as a neighbor. The Oklahoma mom was suspicious.

The 24-year-old returned on New Year’s Eve with an accomplice, 29-year-old Dustin Stewart, and armed with a knife. The men started aggressively knocking on the front and back doors. “I walked over and got the 12-gauge, went in the bedroom and got the pistol, put the bottle in his mouth, and then I called 911,” Sarah explained.

The smart-thinking teen barricaded the front door with a sofa and asked the 911 dispatcher what to do. “I’ve got two guns in my hand. Is it okay to shoot him if he comes in the door?” she asked. “I’m in here by myself with my infant baby, can I please get a dispatcher out here immediately?”

The dispatcher first confirmed that both doors were locked. “I can’t tell you that you can [shoot them], but you do what you have to do to protect your baby,” the dispatcher told her.

Sarah was on the phone a total of 21 minutes, until 2 p.m. when Justin kicked in the door. Sarah shot him once in the torso, and he died. Dustin fled, but eventually turned himself in to police.

Because she was shooting in self-defense, Sarah won’t be charged.

“It was either going to be him or my son,” Sarah said.”And it wasn’t going to be my son. There’s nothing more dangerous than a woman with a child.”

That is SO brave of her! Would you shoot an intruder to protect YOUR baby, HollyMoms?

I have a question. this young lady was having a sexual relationship with a guy in his 50s while she was still in high school. how is this not statutory rape? why would her parents let this relationship go on and she married the guy and also had his child, so you know that they were having sex while she was in high school. when the story dies down about her bravery, this will be the next topic

Where did you get the information her husband was 50? It never gives his age in either this article or the one on ABC….?

This is sickening… Why are you encouraging violence? It’s a tragedy and she DID do a brave thing, but sitting here and acting like shooting someone is the THING to do is just sad. It’s an extremely difficult situation but I believe this story could’ve been written differently, Bonny you’re SICK.

Bonny isn’t condoning violence…she’s simply stating her awe at an eighteen year old who had the courage and the smarts to give the baby a bottle, barricade the doors, call 911, remain calm, and then do what she had to do to protect her child. That man had a KNIFE. Talk about condoning violence? Who knows what he would have done. So Sarah is wrong for killing a man who from all of the evidence would have done horrible (possibly fatal things) to her and her baby? Don’t try to be so saint like and ignore the true hero here.

Yeah, because what they would have done to her once they got in wasn’t sick at all.

I agree that this article is not CONDONING violence at all. It’s basically the same article ABC wrote, not Bonny’s own take on the situation. The focus isn’t on what the mother did, but rather what she was forced to choose between. It was either her and her child or this deranged guy breaking into her house.

I saw this on the news. She lived in the middle of no were boonies. Her drive way was a long dirt drive way. They said something like it takes like 30 minutes just for her to get to town.

Good for her, that has to be the most terrifying thing ever and it sounds like she handled it well, and did what she had to do. It sux that a life had to end like that.
