Katy Perry and Russell Brand Split

Katy Perry and Russell Brand spent Christmas on the opposite sides of the world from each other and several sources tell HollywoodLife.com there is major trouble in paradise!

Katy Perry and Russell Brand have been trying to put on a brave — and happy — face for the cameras, but behind the scenes, their marriage is crumbling apart at a rapid pace. In fact, HollywoodLife.com has learned the power couple, who just celebrated their one year wedding anniversary, are on the rocks.

“Katy and Russell are just in two very different places right now with their lives,” our source says. “Their marriage is not working out. He’s in recovery and really trying to stay clean, but her lifestyle isn’t helping him at all.”

In fact, things are so strained between Katy, 27, and Russell, 36, they deliberately spent Christmas apart from each other. Despite People magazine’s report that the two were together in Hawaii, Katy was actually there alone, without Russell, who was 7,000 miles away in South West England. The British comedian was spotted in a Cornwell pub Dec. 24 and then at his friend David Baddiel‘s charity swim Dec. 26. The following day, Russell went to Winter Wonderland at Hyde Park in London, once again, without Katy.

Meanwhile, Katy was photographed frolicking in the ocean without her wedding ring Christmas day on the island of Kauai, where she was staying in a private rented luxury villa. Since then, she hasn’t been seen by any photography agencies, leaving us to wonder if she’s still on the island.

So what happened between the two A-listers, who seemed so madly in love earlier this year? Multiple insiders confirm with us that while Katy’s career is blowing up, Russell wants to settle down. The outgoing pop star was the first female singer to get five hits on the Billboard Hot 100 in one year. Plus, she spent February through November on her California Dreams Tour — which left her barely any time to play wife to her new husband.

“Katy is on fire right now. She’s touring and going out all the time,” the insider explains. “She’s not ready to settle down and be ‘Mrs. Brand,’ but that’s what Russell wants.”

There have been murmurs of marital problems between Russell — who is a recovering addict — and Katy for a few months. However, the couple have gone out of their way to keep their issues under wraps. In fact, the British comedian even went on Ellen DeGeneres‘ talk show earlier this month laughing off the rumors and dishing on how he wants children.

“It’s all an act,” a second insider tells us about Russell’s interview. “Katy is a bubbly, happy person and Russell is just bringing her down. He may be funny on interview shows, but in real life he is not this happy go lucky guy…the kind of guy Katy thought she married. He is just too depressed and negative!”

In fact, at their last public appearance together — The David Lynch Foundation 3d annual “Change Begins Within” Benefit Celebration in Los Angeles Dec. 3 — Katy and Russell appeared miserable with each other.

An eyewitness tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively, “In front of the cameras they acted really happy together but behind the scenes, Russell was miserable. It was supposed to be an event for meditation, but Russell was anything but peaceful and positive. In fact, he was really rude to one couple who wanted to take a picture of him. Katy was really embarrassed. You could tell she felt uncomfortable.”

As for Katy and Russell’s future, our sources say a split is “imminent,” but the couple isn’t ready to go public with the sad news just yet. We contacted both of the stars’ reps, but haven’t received any comments at this time.

Do you think Katy and Russell’s marriage is doomed, or are they just going through a rough patch? Sound off below.

I just think that both of them are independent and not use to having someone in there lives. But being a person who has been married for 34 years. My thing is give it time.
People think that marriage is a fairytale it is not. It take time to get use to each other mainly when both people have two different personalities. If the press would leave them a lone and let them work thing ous on there own they would be okay. Katy and Russell you can don’t just stop, listen, and learn. I have a positive feeling about you to. Prove me right make it work.

The marriage is doomed from the start. Two persons who are so disimilar would certainly not make a relationship work. I hope Russell eat more as he needs to put on weight and then find a nice chick (may be not in show business) and have a family.

Best wishes to both and hope the new year will bring love back into your lives again.

Marriage takes wrk, but if there r already immediate problems, its probably not a good idea to jump headfirst wo a life preserver.its a fact tht its hard to change somebdy if tht persons not fully commited to the change and both ppl need to b available for marriage to survive.

HAHA! They are celebrities, dumb @$$. Of course they are going to be in gossip blogs and whatnot, what do you expect? These two are a joke and I think it’s funny that celebrities are constantly getting divorced. They treat the wedding like a red carpet affair but forget that after the wedding comes marriage, LOL! They like the attention of the wedding but are all too self absorbed to make an actual union work for longer than a few years. They ALL need to jump off the marriage train, it doesn’t work for famous people and makes them ALL look like idiots!
