Justin’s so thoughtful, and HollywoodLife.com found out the best things he can say to his devoted girlfriend. If this tragedy ever happens to a loved one, you can use this same advice.
Selena Gomez was devastated by the news that her mother Mandy had a miscarriage on Dec. 16. Given how supportive her boyfriend Justin Bieber is, we’re sure he was eager to help any way he could. We spoke with a noted expert who told us exactly HOW Justin could be there for Selena and her family.
Psychotherapist Dr. Gilda Carle spoke to HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY about what Justin, 17, can do to be strong for Selena, 19.
“Justin has to be the best listener in the world,” she said. “He can’t say ‘Do this’ or ‘Do that.’ He has to just listen to her and, as he’s listening, just touch her arm or her shoulder and let her know that he’ll be emotionally present for her and her mom. He needs to encourage her to speak her feelings and not to hold her pain inside. If she doesn’t express her pain and process it, it will come out later when she least expects it. It will come out as anger about something else. She’ll snap at somebody and not be her normal self. Only when she talks and feels the emotion…only after that can she let it go. She also has to be able to discuss her feelings in a safe environment, so Justin shouldn’t criticize her or tell her to ‘Get over it.’ He has to be patient with her. If he provides support to her, it could make their relationship even stronger.”
Our hearts go out to Selena’s family during this tough time.
