In a new tell-all ‘Breaking Dawn’ book, the set designers reveal that they bought two four-poster beds and why it was so difficult to find the perfect honeymoon bed!
Robert Pattinson wasn’t joking when he said the Breaking Dawn sex scene was intense to film! HollywoodLife.com got our hands on The Official Illustrated Movie Companion book and we were shocked to learn that breaking the bed was due to a lot more than just rough sex!
“A four-poster bed is a very Victorian kind of idea,” says set decorator David Schlesigner. “But there are modern four-poster beds and that’s what we ended up with. It’s a simple kind of teakwood bed. In the end, we looked at about twenty different beds before we decided on the one that we used.”
Wow, now that’s a lot of beds! But the crazy morning after scene with the pillows ripped a part and the bed broken into pieces was actually a TON of work to create for the film.
“The honeymoon is the first time they have sex,” David says. “And we had to figure out how to show the damage to the bed, the feathers, all that crazy stuff. Finding the right bed, and figuring out how to make parts break away but be safe for the actors was a collaboration between Richard, David, the director and myself.”
Who knew that a vampire sex scene could be so exhausting?
