Lauren’s devastated parents spoke out in a press conference Dec. 8 and discussed her remarkable progress. Their biggest fear was how Lauren would react when she looked in the mirror for the first time.
Just days after 23-year-old model Lauren Scruggs‘ face and hand were slashed when she walked into the propeller of a two-seat prop plane Dec. 3, Lauren’s parents held a press conference to discuss their daughter’s incredible progress. Jeff and Cheryl Scruggs feared Lauren would lose her life — but on Dec. 8, they revealed that Lauren looked into the mirror for the first time since her horrific accident — and her reaction surprised them.
“She looked at herself for the first time today in the mirror, that was big,” Jeff announced. ”She said, ‘Well, it’s not that bad.’ That was really encouraging.”
Lauren is fighting to recover, and she’s making good progress.
“She’s able to raise both eyebrows,” Jeff said. “That doesn’t sound like a big deal, but they were worried about the nerve on one side — and she’s able to do that. … She’s got her spunk back, her personality. She’s smiling.”
Cheryl added, “She shouldn’t be alive today. God saved her from it, and that’s just a really big deal. She really shouldn’t be alive. We feel blessed. We’re lucky to have her.”
Lauren took her first steps since the accident on Dec. 7.
