Mindy says she did nothing wrong in fleeing with her son across state boarders!
During a revealing interview on Good Morning America, country singer Mindy McCready told ABC all the details of the eventful day Dec. 2 when she was captured in Arkansas with her son, Zander. “He was screaming, ‘Please don’t touch me, please don’t touch me, please don’t touch my mommy. Please, leave me alone, I want to be with my mommy,’” Mindy said.
Mindy says the U.S. Marshalls arrived with guns drawn, terrifying her and Zander. But a U.S. Marshalls official said authorities used standard operating procedure and even had a social worker with them. They also claimed the singer and child were hiding in a closet when they arrived, which Mindy denies!
“There was no forced entry made. No battering ram,” said David Rahbany, Chief Deputy U.S. Marshall for the Eastern District of Arkansas.
Although Mindy is Zander’s mom, she hasn’t had custody of the 5-year-old since 2007. Her mom, Gayle Inge, is his legal guardian, but Mindy says her little son faced physical and emotional danger at his grandmother’s home. They’ve been battling for custody over the boy for two years! Mindy became so desperate she took the boy and fled across state lines — and that’s when she was discovered in her boyfriend’s Arkansas vacation home.
“I do not, to this moment, nor ever think that me taking my own child, that I carried for nine months, that I gave birth to in the hospital by myself would ever be breaking the law,” Mindy said. “What I did was to protect my child, and there’s not a person in the world that’s going to tell me that that is wrong.”
