Giuliana thought her breast cancer would just disappear — but is now prepared for her double mastectomy.
Giuliana Rancic believed her initial lumpectomy would rid her of breast cancer. But after doctors found out she still had cancer in her right breast, she made the decision to have a double mastectomy. It’s “the fight of my life,” Giuliana revealed to People magazine.
“I didn’t think the surgery was really ever going to come,” she said. “I thought it was going to disappear.”
“It was embarrassing to say out loud, because what fool would think it would disappear? But I kept saying it in my head and crying.” she added.
But she knew what she had to do and told her husband Bill Rancic that she was going to have the surgery. “I said to Bill, ‘I’m really ready to do this.’”
She admitted that she is “absolutely” scared of losing both of her breasts. “I felt like, ‘That means I’ll be disfigured. That means I will lose what makes me a woman.’”
Her resolve hasn’t faltered since her decision. “I feel like, move forward. It doesn’t really matter what my breasts looked like yesterday.”
We think Giuliana is so brave for sharing her story!
