For this week’s ‘ask a stylist’ series, we’re tackling the difficult task of dressing in an appropriate, festive and stylish outfit for the slew of holiday parties you probably have coming up. We asked, and your main concern was what to wear when spending time with your boyfriend’s family and in front of the boss. We caught up with Rachel Zoe at the Piperlime Piping Hot Lounge in NYC where she shared her advice that’ll keep you looking neat and effortlessly chic for both your work and family parties.

How can you look cute while still dressing appropriate for a holiday work function or when you’re meeting your boyfriend’s family?
“A lot of times those things are after work so I always say you gotta go for a day-to-night look. I think maybe a short dress with tights and flat boots or flats and, like, a great blazer over it. After work before you head out to the party put on your pumps, throw your hair up, take the jacket off and put on a red lip and you’re ready to go!”

I love dressing festive in sequins, especially around the holiday! Should I leave the sequins at home if I’m going to see my boyfriend’s family?
“No! There’s always a time for sequins isn’t there? I would never rule out sequins as an option for anything.”
