Independent Spirit Awards 2011

The nominations were announced on Nov. 29 and you’ll never guess who was snubbed!

Our favorite time of the year is finally here: awards season! Kate Beckinsale and Anthony Mackie presented the nominees for the 2012 Film Independent Spirit Awards and we were thrilled to learn that some of our favorite actors — including Ryan Gosling, Michelle Williams and Elizabeth Olsen — were all given a nod for their amazing performances. Read on for the full list of nominees!

The Artist, a silent film which is getting a ton of buzz leads the pack with five nominations along with Take Shelter a drama starring Michael Shannon. But right not too far behind was Drive which stars our man Ryan Gosling! We really hope he wins Best Male Lead. Michelle Williams was nominated for her unbelievable performance as Marilyn Monroe in My Week With Marilyn and Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen‘s younger sister Elizabeth Olsen was nominated for her starring role in the psychological thriller Martha Marcy May Marlene.

But why wasn’t George Clooney nominated for his role in The Descendants? He gave a moving and engaging performance as a man who is faced with the difficult task of having to tell his two daughters that their mother is in a coma after being involved in a tragic boating accident. This was a total snub!
