These Terrible Parents Starved Their Daughter To Keep Her From Becoming 'Obese'

Parents Starved Daughter

Parents Starved Daughter

This is shocking! A poor baby girl was starved from birth to keep her from gaining weight — and now the parents are being charged with neglect!

Christopher and Mary Sultze were so afraid their daughter would end up obese that they followed what they called ‘a very low cholesterol diet,’ according to The Daily Mail. The infant weighed only five pounds in the 14 months after her birth. To put it in perspective, 22 pounds was the minimum weight she should have weighed!

These horrible parents are now facing a felony count of child neglect, and they could get a year in prison and a $25,000 fine.

A doctor said the child was starving with no fat on her body, but Christopher refused to leave her daughter at the hospital because she thought the child would “get fat.”

When doctors and social workers noticed the baby’s lack of weight gain, they advised she be put in the hospital. But they grew concerned when the parents got upset by the recommendation that they feed her more calories.

They took her home from the hospital against doctors’ wishes, so police were contacted.

Can you believe this, HollyMoms? An infant’s nutrition is so important! We hope this child will be taken care of properly now!

22 pounds is the minimum at 14 months??

To be on the chart she’d only have to be 18 pounds.

22 pounds would put her in the 25th-50th percentile

I’m fairly certain that’s not the point of the article…

My daughter is 10 months and is 22lbs. I can’t imagine seeing her any skinnier and no I don’t consider her obese or fat. Healthy babies gain weight and the fact that you are arguing the lower weight is ok I think is wrong.

What absolutely horrifies me is that baby must have cried non stop to eat and those cries went unanswered for too long…these parents make me sick! My son is in the 90% for height and weight, I always get comments on how he’s a big boy…my response to them is Yes! He is a HEALTHY BABY! Oh and FYI to the editor you might want to proofread before you hit post…”the infant only weighed 5lbs in the 14 months after her birth” SHOULD SAY ” the infant ONLY gained 5lbs in the 14 months after her birth” BIG FREAKING DIFFERENCE! You are not allowed to take a newborn home from the hospital unless they weigh 6lbs!

It does not have to be 6lbs for a infant to go home. I took my son home at 4lbs 12.5oz .

Shocked by this! As a labor and delivery nurse we do not allow a newborn to be discharged unless he/she is close to the 6lb mark

my son weighed 5 lbs 2 oz at birth and he was a month premature. He was allowed to go home after 1 week. He got down to under 5 lbs and was 4 lbs 12 oz. He was back up to his birth weight the day he was allowed to go home. He is now 20 months old and at his last check up at 18 months he was 25 pounds. I never heard of not allowing a baby to go home until 6 pounds

the baby could have lost weight after leaving the hospital from lack of food…

Most defiantly the baby lost weight after leaving the hospital ( most babies do after they are are born then normally start to gain again) my comment was about the editor saying the baby only weighed 5 lbs after 14 months which was completely wrong information

this is a sad story and the saddest part is the idiot parents get such a light jail sentence. the weight of that baby is even considered underweight for some pre term births or even for multiples couples that struggle to have children hate people like this

Oh my god! I can NOT believe this! Only ONE year in prision?! Do people not realize that infants are SUPPOSED to be chubby! Infants are SUPPOSED to grow quickly, but most importantly they are SUPPOSED to be fed just about on command!
This is absolutely disgusting.

Anyone else find it funny that the parents are obese themselves? Why the HELL did it take so long for a doctor to intervene? Babies have checkups every month! Sounds like everyone in this situation was stupid…and the poor baby suffers for it.
