19 Kids And Counting

The family starts their 20-day European world tour — and they visit Scotland and Ireland first!

Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar have been all over the news since they announced they’re now 20 kids and counting last week — just in time for the season premiere of their reality show! In this episode, the family takes their first trip overseas.

Before they leave, they have to prepare — and with 26 people (Jim Bob, Michelle, the kids, Josh, Anna Mackynzie, Michael, Grandma and cousin Amy) that’s no easy task. The family has a meeting and makes a game plan: Jim Bob outlined the trip, Jess was going to pack for everybody and a trip to the store to get last-minute supplies was needed. “Jim Bob’s biggest phobia is running out of socks and underwear,” Michelle explained.

The crew then heads to the airport… a little late. “The main thing is just getting all of our kids on the plane with passports in hand, and if we forget a few things, we’ll pick them up along the way,” Jim Bob said. It takes them two hours to board, but eventually they get to their first destination — Edinburgh, Scotland!

First up, walking the Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle. On the way, the family is shocked by a street performer swallowing a sword and eating fire.

The next day they go to the Highland Games, where they’re dubbed “The McDuggar Clan.” The Highland Games has lots of shenanigans: losing a giant tug-of-war contest, Jim Bob being forced to wear a kilt by a group of sword-wielding Scottish men (he still kept his jeans on underneath) and Michelle dressing as a traditional Scottish lass.

Now that they had conquered Scotland, the family heads to Ireland. Sightseeing in the land of green involved making Irish Soda Bread by hand at a farm, watching a sheepdog herd sheep, drinking straight from a cow and a pig riding contest. Just your typical Irish vacation.

Next week, the Duggars conquer England!

Have you been to Scotland or Ireland? What did you think of their trip?

Thanks for any other wonderful article. Where else could anybody get that kind of info in such a perfect means of writing? I have a presentation next week, and I’m on the look for such information.

I think it’s disgusting that just because they are more fertile than most of us, they are famous and get to travel the world. The minute they stop having babies people are going to get sick of their show and where will they be then? Not in Europe, that’s for sure.

The Duggars deserve the world trip so let’s be happy for them.

I admire so much the matriarch, Michelle, because throughout the years, she has been consistently sweet, not just to her husband and children, but to everyone. She said she has learned in life that talking unkindly to anyone does not accomplish anything good, that’s why she’s the sweet lady that she is these days. SHE’S VERY EXCEPTIONAL – I’VE NEVER MET ANYONE AS PLEASANT AND LIKABLE AS HER.

She, with her responsible, efficient husband and their kids are also consistently moral, ethical, caring even to other people, God-loving and debt-free all these years. Despite being home-schooled and no TV, no parties, no hanging out somewhere, the children are multi-skilled, well-adjusted, articulate, knowledgeable and smart kids. They’re really good role models for parents and children alike.

i dont think it is right of the show to spend that kind of money on a family that large to go on vacation. there are homeless people and people out of work in this country that could use that money. let jim bob get a job and maybe then he could take the family to europe.

Just so you know, Jim Bob actually rents properties out and has other businesses that paid for the family before the show came along and will continue to pay for the family after the show is gone. I agree that there are many homeless individuals and many people are out of jobs, but if you’ve watched the show at all you’ll see the family building houses for tornado victims and going to third world countries bringing them food and clothes (which they did before the show as well). They’ve done their fair share of helping others, they deserve a vacation.

I’m sure the Duggars will be appreciative….Kate Gosselin never acted like she was thankful for the trips, gifts or special things done for her and her kids…just the opposite. She was rude many times!

I love the Duggar family and are so happy TLC footed the bill for this mega large family to travel abroad. This family deserves the travel trip of a lifetime.

I bet Kate Gosselin is very, very angry that they kicked her to the curb and traveling to Europe was on her “bucket list.” Oh, well. A family more deserving and ethical got the trip of a lifetime. Yea, yea, yea.
