Billy Crystal To Host The Oscars!

The eight-time Academy Awards host has swooped in to save the day — are you as thrilled as we are?

Billy Crystal is a hero! The hilarious actor took to his Twitter to announce that he will be taking Eddie Murphy‘s place as the host of the 84th Annual Academy Awards on Feb. 26, 2012 — hurray!

“Am doing the Oscars so the young woman in the pharmacy will stop asking my name when I pick up my prescriptions,” Billy tweeted. “Looking forward to the show.”

Billy’s announcement comes on the heels of Eddie quitting as host after his buddy Brett Ratner resigned as producer for the show after the backlash for his anti-gay remarks and inappropriate tirade on Howard Stern .

Yes, yes, yes. Billy Crystal is the best! I love, love, love him and he always did such an outstanding job at the Academy Awards. I still remember some of his skits from hosting the AW.

They should select another comedian to co-host with him such as Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Will Ferrell, Ricky Gervais, Simon Pegg, Eddie Izzard, Rowan Atkinson, Owen Wilson, Jack Black, Rob Schneider, Chris Rock, Jeremy Piven, Mike Myers, Jim Carrey, William Shatner, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, Tim Allen, Chevy Chase, John Goodman, Billy Connolly, Danny DeVito, Robin Williams, George Lopez, John Cleese or Steve Coogan.
