Mariah may have given birth to twins Moroccan and Monroe after a tough pregnancy and C-section, but now she’s back to a flat, toned tummy and trim figure. How ever did she do it? We NEED to know!
Mariah Carey is looking fantastic on the cover of the Nov. 21 Us Weekly showing off her newly toned post-pregnancy body — and can we say it? — we’re sooo jealous! We didn’t have a baby, let alone twins, last April 30, and we don’t look this good. So what’s her secrets?
Apparently, operation “get body back” started in July with 1,500-calorie-a-day diet, reduced after a month to 1,200 calories a day, and 5 or 6 45-minute workouts a week.
Mariah’s pregnancy wasn’t easy: She developed gestational diabetes, had a double hernia and ended up on bed rest. “I gained an enormous amount of weight,” she told Us Weekly. “I was scared I was never going to walk again! After carrying two 6-pound babies around, I had to relearn how to do it.”
But now she’s back into size-6 shorts thanks to a nutrition and workout plan from Jenny (Jenny Craig). She started losing one to two pounds a week, and now she’s the brand’s ambassador!
“I feel incredible, but it was a long road!” Mariah, 42, confessed. “Being pregnant felt longer than it was. It was a huge blessing to be able to have the babies, but I felt trapped in my body because I couldn’t move.”
But luckily Mariah had her husband Nick Cannon, 31, by her side — getting her Big Gulps during her pregnancy, and cheering her on during her diet. “He was there for me every step of the way,” Mariah said. “He’s the most generous guy.”
Mariah couldn’t start her weight loss regime until six weeks after the babies were born. She was breastfeeding, which required her to eat more than normal. But by the time the new mom was ready to get back into shape, she was determined to reclaim her pre-baby body. “When I started, I got really strict with myself,” she revealed. “Jenny and the American Heart Association, which I’m working with to raise health awareness, helped me understand that losing weight is about eating what you like, just in the appropriate portion sizes.”
Mariah said the diet isn’t hard, but requires focus and determination. She praised the company’s snacks — such as their popcorn and cheese curls — and said the food never left her feeling starving.

In addition to her diet, Mariah began working out — which made her feel like a whole person again! “Even though my weight loss was mostly from dieting, I’m never going to stop working out,” she said. “It releases stress. I’m really focused on my health now — mind, body and soul.”
Her workout regime consisted of cardio and aquatic workouts, walking everywhere and working out for 45 minutes, 5 to 6 times a week. Need more details? Check the end of the article for her complete workout routine!
Her goal now is to get back to her 2008 weight during the “Touch My Body” video. “I know I’m not going to look my thinnest every day, but I know how to get back there if I want to.”
Now that Mariah’s body is back in shape, she has big plans. “The studio is calling my name!” she revealed to Us Weekly. “Our babies are such inspiration, and I can’t help jotting down lyrics and singing new melodies every day.”

Mariah’s Workout Plan!
“It’s so boring just being on a treadmill,” says Mariah. Good thing Jenny-Set-Go — the four-week program she used to jump-start her fitness goals — mixes cardio, resistance training and body-weight exercises. Carey works out for 45 minutes five to six times a week (find exact plans at jennycraig.com).
Monday, Wednesday and Friday: Carey alternates walking with intervals of 30 crunches, 15 pushups and triceps dips, then 15 lunges on each leg and 30 squats. The final move: two sets of bicycle-kick crunches for 30 seconds.
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday: She does an aquatic workout or walks with five-minute intervals of jogging — then rests on Sunday. Says Carey, who also loves walking her dogs, “It works so well with any diet!”
She looks SO great, and we’re glad she did it in a healthy way! HollyMoms, how did you lose YOUR baby weight?
