Kris’ obsession with fame led to the final straw in their relationship while Kim is left wondering, ‘Who is this person I just married?’
When Kim Kardashian decided to file for divorce from Kris Humphries after just 72 days of marriage, everyone was left wondering what led to her hasty decision — and HollywoodLife.com has exclusively learned from a Kardashian insider that it was Kris’ newfound obsession with the spotlight that was the final straw. “He [Kris] got obsessed with the spotlight and money he could make leveraging Kim’s fame and it was a huge turn off.”
Kim and Kris quietly dated off camera for the first two months of their relationship, mainly because Kris didn’t want to be taped — but everything seemed to change when Kris was out of work due to the NBA lockout. “Before the wedding he could care less about filming but the minute the NBA lockout hit and the cash stopped coming in Kris wanted to really own the reality fame. He hired a publicist and demanded more money from production.”
If you look at Kim’s past relationships, specifically with her long-term boyfriend Reggie Bush, the leading men in Kim’s life never paid much mind to her reality fame — but that wasn’t the case with Kris, our insider says. “Kim was left thinking, ‘Who is this person I just married and why is he using me?’ People are so curious as to why she didn’t wait past the 72 days but Kris was on a roll, hosting club appearances and setting up meetings behind her back with people Kim introduced him to. He was taking advantage of Kim. The more she waited the more it would reflect on her and that’s why it happened so quickly. He was trying to make money off her and was obsessed with the spotlight.”
