The truth is finally coming out. Kody’s first three wives at over 200 lbs each, INSIST they AREN’T jealous of Robyn for her slimmer shape because Kody PREFERS CURVY women!
Poor Robyn! Even she is so besieged in last night’s, Oct 23rd episode, that “Kody told me in a nice way at one point that he actually likes curvy girls and I’m not really a curvy girl so it’s not like I have an upper hand with this whole situation.”
In fact, Meri makes sure to tell us that “I don’t see Robyn as a threat to my relationship with Kody just because she’s a smaller person,” Meri insists. “I know that Kody loves me for me and Robyn for Robyn and it doesn’t have anything to do with our body size.”
Too bad she didn’t sound more convincing.
Then Christine pipes in, “People who would look at my body and who would look at Robyn’s body would probably think I would want her body or body shape but I don’t want to be too skinny.”
Whew! There goes another dig at the normal-sized Robyn who is managing to stay slim even with her baby bump.
It sure feels like the ladies are protesting too much.
Well, it’s great that Kody does like fuller figures because when Meri finally convinces her other sister wives to join her in the gym, we actually find out everyone’s weight.
Trainer Bill at the gym is unrelenting. He puts each wife on a scale, “I was mortified because I had never told anybody my weight including Kody,” admits Janelle, who is bravely first up for the weigh-in.
The news is not good. She weighs 271 lbs, forcing Janelle to tell us that “my physical appearance has always been my achilles heel. I know I’m smart, I know I’m a good employee, I’m good at everything else but my physical appearance has always been my achilles heel, so to have it blatantly broadcast was very disturbing!”
I bet Janelle! I applaud you for going public with your weight, especially when Trainer Bill lectures her saying that with a 44 BMI, she will be unhealthy AND unhappy AND won’t live as long as she wants if she doesn’t change her lifestyle!”
“You’re the one who needs this the most,” he intones to Janelle, who looks like she’s about to burst into tears. And I wouldn’t have blamed the mom of six if she did, even if Kody DOES prefer curvy women.
Christine meanwhile admitted that at 222 lbs, she actually wasn’t at her heaviest now. No, that was when she actually got married to Kody.
Meri, wasn’t too happy to report that at her current 214 lbs and size 14 body, she was well above HER size 10 figure at the time she married Kody.
Pregnant Robyn at 158 lbs, was still the smallest wife of all on the gym’s weight scales.
My only question to trainer Bill was - is he actually getting these wives to do some cardio to burn off some calories because the show sure didn’t show that! The episode only revealed that they’re weight training but these ladies are going to get mighty discouraged if they don’t see some weight melting off and that will only happen if some cardio’s involved, Bill.
The episode actually began to feel like a Biggest Loser episode when Kody and the wives headed to an Asian buffet restaurant for dinner. All of a sudden the wives are worried about what to eat and are being tortured by the buffet.
But it also gives them an opportunity to dig at picky eater Robyn again.
“I remember one time saying to Kody — I wish I could eat whatever I wanted like Robyn can,” says Meri. And Kody says — “She can’t eat whatever she wants. She gets sick with a lot of stuff, she has to be careful.” Meri continues, “Part of me says I wish I had that problem because then my body would look ‘right’ but I like food so much, I’m glad I don’t have that problem.”
Christine — who doesn’t want to be as skinny as Robyn anyway — then gets her knife out too.
“I would rather enjoy food, every bite I eat. I’d rather savor that food,” insists Christine, instead of having to watch what she eats like Robyn.
Only Janelle is honest enough to admit “I would personally rather have Robyn’s problem and not have to worry about the prejudice and stereotype that came with being a larger person. That would be worth it.”
Oh, poor Janelle. I really felt for her and admired her honesty and appreciated that unlike her “sisters” she didn’t get in a back handed slap against skinny Robyn.
The episode wraps with Episcopal priest, Danielle Tummino, interviewing Kody and his wives to find out if they have the same beliefs as some of the fundamentalist Mormons who live in compounds.
Meri makes it clear, that they are NOT part of a cult. And Kody says the “cult” Mormons believe in arranged marriages and they don’t.
The family invites Danielle to a big family get-together welcoming back the five older Brown sons from a summer at their Uncle’s ranch in Wyoming. The smaller kids go nuts when they see their big bros again. It is SWEET.
Danielle Admits: “When these kids came running through the door, there was so much love in their home I think it makes it hard to cast negative judgment on them as a family. I don’t know if I can say that about all polygamous families, but I can say that about them.”
I have to agree with Danielle. I may not agree that polygamy is a wise or empowered choice for women but the 16 Brown children are remarkably sweet, loving, and close to each other, so I have to commend all Kody’s wives for that — no matter what their weight!
