Will and Kate don’t have a child yet, but the hierarchy rules are already being changed in case they have a daughter!
Currently, if Prince William and Kate Middleton have a son, he would inherit the throne — even if their first child is a daughter! Prime Minister David Cameron hopes to change this outdated rule, according to People magazine.
“We espouse gender equality in all other aspects of life, and it is an anomaly that in the rules relating to the highest public officer we continue to enshrine male superiority,” he wrote. Prime Minister David has other plans, too! He proposed lifting the ban that says anyone marrying a Catholic cannot succeed the throne, and he wants only the first six in line for succession to need permission to marry from the reigning queen or king.
Great news! It’s only fair that the oldest child inherits the throne, no matter his or her gender. And we can’t wait for the royal baby bump watch!
