HollyMoms, taking prenatal vitamins is so beneficial for your child! A new study says that without folic acid, your child is twice at risk for serious language delays!
Women who are planning to get pregnant should pay attention, too! A Norwegian study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association recommends that women take folic acid supplements before and during pregnancy, according to USA Today!
Folic acid is already known to reduce the risk of other birth defects, such as spina bifida, but the new study shows it’s beneficial to children’s nervous systems.
The study observed pregnant women and their children until the kids were 3 years old. Kids who could only utter one word or unintelligible language by the age of 3 were considered to have severe delays. The Daily Mail reports that four of 1,000 kids of women who took folic acid had delays, but that increased to nine out of 1,000 kids if mothers didn’t take the supplement.
Many foods in the United States are fortified with folic acid – bread, cereal and other grains – but pregnant women, as well as those planning to have a baby, should take at least 400 micrograms of folic acid a day, Dr. Deborah Campbell advised USA Today.
Khloe Kardashian and other celebs trying to get pregnant should take this study seriously! Take your vitamins, Khloe!
