Amanda Knox Flees Italy After Being Cleared Of Murder Charges — Wouldn't You?

Amanda was spotted with her family at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport hours after her release, and is expected to be back in the United States on Oct. 4. See what she did during her first moments of freedom!

Immediately after her successful Oct. 3 appeal, Amanda Knox and her family were spotted fleeing Italy and heading home to her native Seattle — we can’t blame them!

Amanda, 24, was convicted in 2009 for the 2007 killing of her roommate Meredith Kercher,  but she was cleared of the crimes in Italian court. After the emotional verdict was read, Amanda and her family headed to Rome’s Fiumicino Airport.

Her lawyer Carlo Dalla Vedova issued a statement about Amanda’s release, saying, “She was calm, serene and looking forward to going home and just spending time with her friends and family. She wants to get on with her life. She is a clever and intelligent girl who has been through a lot — one day in prison is bad enough but four years is even worse.”

Amanda’s grandmother Elisabeth Huff tells RumorFix that after she was freed, Amanda had simple requests.

“When she comes home she said she wants to just lay in the wide green grass,” Elisabeth said. “Well, we do have a yard for her to lay in! I think her main thing is just to get home and relax, to spend time with the people who love her. These are the first things she will do. We need to give her a little space, a little time. Our plan is to give her time and let her decide what she wants to do. It’s about what’s important to her – we didn’t sit in jail, she did.”

Also cleared as innocent was her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito. Meanwhile, drifter Rudy Guede is still behind bars for the crime, although he too has maintained his innocence.

Amanda is already being pursued by superstar journalists such as NBC’s Matt Lauer and ABC’s Elizabeth Vargas to tell her story, the New York Post reports.

Furthermore, the Daily Mail speculates that her memoirs — which she wrote in prison — could go for top dollar, and several movie studios are hoping to move forward with adaptations of her life for the big screen. All of this could earn Amanda quite a payday!

What do you think, HollywoodLifers — what’s your reaction to the verdict?

The title of this story is just so wrong. Amanda is not *fleeing* Italy. She is not running away from anything because she has been acquitted. She is leaving Italy just like hundreds of people do everyday. Flee is the wrong word used since a person only does that when running away from something or someone.
