Kate Gosselin Packs Her Kids' Lunchboxes With Organic Food — Can She Afford It?

Sun, October 2, 2011 6:49am EDT by 28 Comments

Could YOU afford to send eight kids to school with organic food for lunch?

Kate Gosselin revealed on her new blog Kate Plus My 8 what she packs her kids for lunch, and it turns out there’s plenty of high-priced organic choices! While we applaud her for going the healthy route — especially at a time when child obesity is an ongoing issue — we question the economics of the situation considering her recent unemployment.

What’s in Kate’s kids’ lunchboxes?

“Guacamole and chips, organic salted sunflower seeds, celery sticks, a red plum (yum!), organic yogurt with non-organic sprinkles (yes, it livens up vanilla yogurt!), a homemade M&M chocolate chip cookie, a bottle of Juicy Juice and a little box of raisins!” Kate writes.

Is it wise for Kate to be splurging on organic sunflower seeds and yogurt when they are healthy to begin with?

What do you think, Hollymoms? Should Kate continue splurging on organic food when she’s unemployed?

I find it ridiculous. Kate isn’t even getting the things she should be getting organic. Seeds and yogurt? If you are going to spend money on organic food, make it the fruits and veggies where all the pesticides are. Plus, that doesn’t even sound like a healthy lunch. It’s sugar, sugar, and more sugar. Where is the protein? Just because it has the word organic doesn’t make it a balanced lunch. Just because you put fruit and veggies inside doesn’t make it healthy either. It’s all about balance. Don’t waste money on organic food that you supposedly can’t afford, if you aren’t going to do it right.

a real nurse

Kate has loads of money, she reportably made 5 k last year alone. She just likes to cry poor, for attention and freebies. She should be the one giving to the real single moms, she isn’t one. Jon pays child support and has the kids 2 w/e a month for his custody and other days.

She is supposed to be a nurse and this is the worst lunch for kids; she couldn’t make a sandwich with some protein in it? Sheessshh.

Organic celery and plums would be worth the money. Far more pesticides there than in seeds and yogurt. She’s just not that bright. Also, way too much sugar in that lunch (yogurt, sprinkles, plum, raisins, juice, cookie w/M&Ms and choc. chips). Very little protein for growing kids.

I agree with you Maggie. I said something similar before reading your post. Why waste money on organic seeds and yogurt and not on the things that need to be organic like fruits and veggies?

OH so if you had a reality show with your kids in it, you wouldn’t get paid anything right? And the network wouldn’t trust fund the money for the kids until they are 18 right? Geese Mandy, you sure are smart.

A reason most of you can’t or don’t want to afford healthy habits, is that you’re too busy wasting your time telling others how they should live, instead of keeping your brain busy with those very same healthy habits.
Shut UP!

Why don’t you shut up and quit assuming you know how anyone else shops or eats? Are you not wasting your time telling others how to live their lives? Get off the computer and go enjoy your family or something. People are entitled to their opinions whether they agree with you or not. That’s why they call this the Land of the Free.

I stood in line yesterday at the market with my colorful basket of organics & stupid healthy food while the women in front of me was purchasing two twelve packs of beer with cash.
She commented on my colorful healthy purchase and said she wishes she could afford to eat that healthy.
What’s stupid about that?

Shocked

I was shocked to see the poll results. Cheap processed food filled with chemicals is not a good choice for anyone. What people do not realize is that the more people buy organic, then that is a sending a message to the food industry. The more readily available organic food will bring the costs down too. Everyone should be doing as much as possible to eliminate garbage foods. I know I do!

She can feed her kids whatever she wants. If she wants them to eat organic, she can. Why are we all up in her life?

I agree. No one is perfect. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God the bible says. Jesus died on the cross to save us if we accept him as our saviour, not to condemn us. Concentrate on yourself and stop obsessing with others. Besides critisizing does not help anyone, only praying for them. Also organic food is very healthy.

You sound — dare I say it — somewhat critical and judgmental of those being critical and judgmental of Kate. You may want to do a little more practicing what you preach, while at the same time learning more about grammar and punctuation.

She can feed her kids whatever she wants but please if she would just shut up and stop emotionally exploiting the kids and others. She is a mother that needs significant therapy. She is soooooooo out of touch with reality.

Annnnnnd, if Kate Gosselin did not want anybody up in her life she would quietly move on, find a way to financially support her children, stop exploiting her children, stop lying, and gain some credibility.

Kate keeps her moronic self and kids out there and continues to exploit them. She is a fake in every sense of the word. Her website is a joke with other peoples information and advice. She is not an expert on anything but lying and child abuse.

Yea, yea. Kate Gosselin is a is not genuine at anything she does. At the beginning of her show she was seen at Costco buying big bags of junk food, e.g., crackers, candy, etc. (nothing organic).

If she thinks it will sell, she will pitch the idea as if it is her own. She just copies others and gets on board with the latest fad, and she should probably be sued.
