Bristol Palin Says Her Bar Rant Wasn't Homophobic — Really?

Bristol Palin Homophobic Rant

After accusing a patron — who was insulting her mother Sarah Palin — of being gay, Bristol says she wasn’t disrespectful of homosexuals. Huh?

Bristol Palin‘s shocking rant at the Saddle Ranch in West Hollywood, Calif. on Sept. 22 started when she got into a verbal fight with an on-looker who insulted her mother Sarah Palin. But when she said she thought the man was “a homosexual,” people were outraged. But now Bristol’s people are saying her words weren’t homophobic — but we REALLY don’t understand the logic!

Bristol, 20, attacked a 47-year-old consultant named Stephen Hanks, and her rep tells TMZ it was in self-defense.

“[Bristol] was approached in a confrontational and inappropriate manner when two men aggressively shouted expletives aimed at her in reference to her mother,” her rep said. “Bristol responded to the unprovoked verbal assault by calmly standing her ground and defending her family. The situation ended with no incident, and accusing her of homophobia is completely unfounded and totally misstates her views.”

Do you think Bristol was being homophobic, HollywoodLifers?

ITWAS homophobic the man only was being honest about Palin’s show. He didn’t insult the family. There was no reason for her to attack and call him the F-word.

This is CRAZY. Honestly, what is the world coming to?
She gets completely insulted and then bullied by the media for standing up for herself?
What she said IS NOT homophobic, she is merely standing up for herself and her mother by pinpointing the reason for why the man is spewing hate and he guess what? HE admits it himself.

Your choices suck!! “She should have walked away” or “She should be forgiven for defending her mother”. Either way you imply she did something wrong and she didn’t. She defended her mother against a big mouth bully who was throwing hate at her and refused to give one piece of FACT to back up what he was saying. If any one of you was in a public place and someone was yelling insults about someone close to you, would you just let it slide or would you defend the person to them??

what she really meant was “are you hitting on me? Because I would totally be OK with that.”

oh, and the answer to the ride Levi like that would have been “like yo momma did”

girl needs some practice!

Bristol homophobic?!

Typical of left leaning trash to change the subject. She was verbally abused by a man twice her age, who couldn’t even articulate why he said what he did…. Now you spin that abuse into a discussion of if SHE has some problem.

Seriously, this is truly beyond belief, but on the other hand it’s to be expected.

All she asked him was, if he was a homosexual, and THAT’S a homophobic slur????
Should we eliminate that word from dictionaries, now, because it’s sooo depriving to us. Let’s all stop with the victim mentality, it doesn’t justify with what that guy said to her.

I agree completely! She hardly ‘attacked’ him, she was sticking up for her mom, like anyone would do! and she was way more calm than I would’ve been!

What’s with the censorship of comments on this lame site? Comments too spot on and rational for your liking? You let a a couple of anemic disagreeing comments through to make it look like you’re balanced, but hold back the ones that accurately punch holes in this histrionic post. Not coming back.

You people should listen to the video before you write. She DIDN’T ACCUSE him of being a homosexual, she calmly asked him if he was ranting (about six cussing sentences) about Sarah because he’s a homosexual, and he said “YEAH, pretty much”. There was no homophobic slur. Hanks also doesn’t seem to remember when Sarah supported GOPround at CPAC (and caught some flack from those right of her [albeit not so many] because of it. I don’t care for Bristol or Sarah at all, but this clown was a total jerk.

You should take a few minutes to transcribe the video instead of cherry picking a few words, and twisting them around to make a misleading headline. Since I’ve seen no other source that’s done this (and they’re all bringing up the homophobe angle), you’ll probably have an exclusive.

Homophobic? Not in the least. She merely asked him if he was homosexual. Thankfully the vast majority of people in this country will look at this video and see a hateful, 47 year old maniac screaming the most vile and despicable things conceivable in his deranged mind at a 21 year old woman.

Bristol was about as calm and collected as she could be considering what she had just been subjected to by this lunatic.

And those who relish this kind of display because they hate the Palins so much, I can only ask…

Do you really believe this helps your cause? All you are doing is making Sarah Palin more sympathetic to people. Not only was this creature vicious in his behavior but he was also an idiot.

Good post. I’m not saying it because it agrees with mine, but you’re one of the few who seems to have listened to the video. Bristol handled it well – it was actually better than if she’d have walked away (and I was surprised). A guy would’ve probably just punched out this cornball.

Another article said he wish he’d have qualified “whore” with “media”, but that wouldn’t have made any difference – he said it’s not like him to say such things and blamed it on watching too much Jerry Springer when he was a kid (but gotta wonder if Springer influenced him, or if he gravitated toward Springer because he’s a loudmouth a–hole).

“[Bristol] was approached in a confrontational and inappropriate manner . . .” Really? Maybe if you edit the video. Bristol went over to him. Kinda like her mother did when a woman had a sign up that said “Worst Governor Ever”. These people cannot let anything go or slide. If Bristol doesn’t want to hear from the little people, she needs to stay home. And who’s watching the baby when his mother is out bar-hopping?

Ella, you should watch it carefully before you throw out your opinion: Bristol mentioned that the reason why the bargoer does not like Sarah Palin is simply because that bargoer is a “homosexual”. So, her point is that every homosexual hates her mother. Saddle Ranch is a bar and restaurant that is catered for heterosexual crowd, it’s an upbeat, frat house crowd went older. Although it’s still west hollywood, it’s definitely not a gay bar. The gay bars are at the other side which is Santa Monica blvd. Saddle Ranch is at Sunset blvd. Wether the guy who rants at her is gay or not, both Bristol and that guy showed how shallow their minds are. Bristol put herself out there with her reality tv crew, so expect rants from the public… Because you are using the public as your stage.

You are scary if you think assaults are ever justified. Please don’t serve on any juries. If a gay man had been shooting a reality show and had been assaulted, you’d be whistling a different tune. Moreover, the assaulter said he didn’t even notice the cameras. This agro behavior has become common acceptable human interaction.

Ella, I think you’re missing the point. No words were actually homophobic but it was her implication (and the hateful logc behind it) that this mans sexuality has ANYTHING to do with his views, that was bigoted. He was acting an idiot but sexuality was 100% irrelevant to their conversation. That she brought it up and used it as an insult is homophobic! As well as her implication that she can ‘tell’ a gay person by looking. The implication that gay people irrationally hate her mother! My god, it was everything! Her words were dripping with hate. It was so obvious to anyone with sense that she thinks little of gay people, thinks of them as fools that hate her mother for no reason, thinks they can be identified by looking (come on, you really think she thinks that gay people can be identified by POSITIVE physical traits? No, she lumps gay men into a group of feminine ‘mincing’ high pitched voiced men that she can see coming miles away).

Bristol is a real piece of work. She’s a disgusting pig of a girl, terrible excuse of a mother.

So it’s ok for him to irrationally use HER sexuality as a basis for his unprovoked profane assault on her mother, but if she asks him his sexual orientation in order to comprehend the motivation behind his vitriol then that’s where you draw the line? This twisted blog post and comments are beyond nuts. And darn you for making me defend a Palin. You need to stop twisting around right and wrong, and the series of events, just to suit your world view.

I don’t like the Palins but think you’re off base assuming you know what’s in Bristol’s mind. Here’s about what went down (H-Hanks,B-Bristol,3-third person):
H: did you ride Levi like that. your mother’s a whore
3: what was THAT about?
H: your mother’s a fuckin’ whore. she’s the devil
3: Bristol, what was that about?
H: your mother’s the fuckin’ devil
B: Oh is she?
H: yeah, she’s the devil. she lives, she breathes. you know what, if there was a hell, which I don’t believe there is one, she will be there
B: why is that?
H: she’s evil. she’s evil/
B: is it because you’re a homosexual?
H: pretty much
B: and that’s why you hate her?
H: why’d you say I’m a homosexual?
B: because I can tell you are. (by his mannerisms/hand gestures? – I can’t hear what she says)
Then her friend asked his age (47) and tells him to leave her alone and he says WHY SHE CAME UP TO ME… [after a–hole’s yelling and saying all this stuff).

What contortions you are going through to indict Bristol and say nothing of the true A hole who is the one making the vile and bigoted comments about her and her mother.

She had every right to confront him and he showed his anemic IQ by jot being able to even remotely justify his positions.

Stop being an apologist for all things gay.

I do not think Bristol was being homophobic. She simply implied that the man was gay, which although that was uncalled for, was not homophobic in the slightest. Tell me if I missed something, as I could not perfectly understand Bristol, but she certainly didn’t say, “All gays must die and should be staked.” Thus, it wasn’t homophobic in the slightest.

She asked if he was a homosexual after she asked him a couple times why he was ranting.

The guy says he doesn’t believe in hell other than figuring Sarah would be there. If he’s this messed up, he may find out there IS a hell someday. Worst thing would be if his “room” was next to Sarah’s and she was blasting her recorded speeches 24/7 for all of eternity – gives me the willies just thinking about that…
