We’ve been looking for swanky and delicious restaurants in Manhattan and we’ve finally found La Petite Maison owned by Nicole Rubi — and it’s a must-east hotspot for you and your girlfriends!
Close your eyes and imagine you’re sitting on the veranda of a quaint seaside restaurant in Cannes, with the wind in your hair and a crisp glass of French wine in hand. Now open, you’re sitting in the next best place, La Petite Maison, a sister restaurant of world renowned restaurant Nice, owned by Nicole Rubi. The restaurant located in Midtown Manhattan behind the Museum of Modern Art is located in a nondescript brownstone that previously belonged to the Rockefeller family — can someone say New York royalty?!
HollywoodLife.com had the chance to dine at the intimate restaurant designed by award-winning French architect, Cyril Durand Behar, most famous for designing the Lancome Institute, and Dolce & Gabbana boutiques — and it was exquisite. The decor was incredibly chic with Warhol-esque portraits of Twiggy among others, scattered throughout. The restaurant, which seats 142 people, is split into two floors and has a unique Niçoise cuisine.
We can tell you that Alain Allegretti, as Consulting Chef and Arno Busquet as Chef de Cuisine, have done a remarkable job with the menu and it was beyond delicious. I started with the Traditional Salad of Nice ($15), Truffled Creamy Macaroni ($55), and Yellowtail Tuna Carpaccio with jalapeno peppers ($22) and right there I could have died and gone to heaven. But just when I thought my mouth couldn’t water enough, my order of Seared Sea Scallops with Roasted Garlic ($33) had me begging for more! My girlfriend had the Linguini in a Lobster Sauce ($38) which was equally yummy. But the ultimate moment of the evening came when the chef brought out Tiramisu ($10) and the Chocolat Fondant ($10) which were some of the best desserts I’ve ever had!
If you get a chance, make sure to check out the impressive atrium which opens into a courtyard — it feels like you’re right there in Nice! This is one of the most upscale yet shockingly affordable restaurants in NYC — enjoy a night out and feel like an old Hollywood star!
