Ramona tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively that her feud with Jill during season five ‘was just too much negative energy’ — and that she’s ‘excited’ for Bravo’s decision to ‘change’ the cast!
It’s no secret that The Real Housewives of New York City star Ramona Singer didn’t like her former costar and frenemy Jill Zarin. In fact, it seemed like the women took swings at each other at every chance they got throughout season four. So it comes as no surprise that Ramon doesn’t seem to be emotionally bothered that Jill got fired and won’t be returning for season five. Quite the opposite in fact.
“I think Jill being gone will be [good] for me … Jill became a negative force in my life,” Ramona tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively. “It was just too much negative energy. There’s nothing wrong with having altercations and disagreements and arguments, but it can consume you and it can’t become cancerous. I felt with Jill, that’s what it became for me.”
But Ramona’s partially surprised that Bravo fired Jill, Alex McCord, Cindy Barshop and Kelly Bensimon. “I was really surprised [that they fired the women] just as everyone was that they were eliminating people,” confesses Ramona. “But you know what, I trust Bravo. Bravo’s a major network and one of the most popular and they know what they’re doing.”
Thinking about the network’s decision in more depth, Ramona looks back to the season four reunion. “Part of me wasn’t really surprised because after doing the reunion, the fans all reached out and said, ‘We don’t like what’s going on. You have to change the cast here,’” shares Ramona. “I didn’t feel good after the reunion.” If you remember — at the reunion Ramona and Jill had a major tussle discussing alcoholism.
“I’m sad to see the other women go,” continues Ramona. “I’ve been with some of them since the beginning and we kind of plowed the way with our show. So it’s sad, but it’s also on the same token, Bravo’s smart. They listen to the fans and I’m excited about it. Sometimes change is good.”
Ramona thinks that the women will be fine now that they are off the show anyway. “The other women, they are all very successful and will only continue to be successful,” she notes.
And Ramona says she doesn’t need Jill around to inspire controversy. “I do have a very strong personality,” she admits. “I’m very opinionated and don’t really hold things back, so I’m like that with everyone. I’m like that with my daughter, I’m like that with my husband — so I’m still the same. There will always be something with me, that’s just who I am and I can’t change it.
She adds: “Nothing is calm when I’m around.”
Ramona’s quite excited to begin filming her season five on Oct. 3 after she gets returns from her trip to Tampa, Fla. She says it will be fun to promote her Pinot Grigio on Sept. 27 at Tampa Total Wine (5-7 pm) and to host her a show on HSN for her new jewelry collection on Sept. 29 (1-3 pm).
“I’m very excited to do my fifth season,” says Ramona. “I love doing the show and as long as I have fun doing it, I’ll keep doing it and it’s great for my brands.”
