While the reality star strutted her stuff on the runway, the organization was outraged by the blatant disregard for their suggestion that models under 16 appear on the fashion week runway.
If you thought the fact that 14-year-old Kylie Jenner made it down the runway at the Abbey Dawn show meant that everyone in the industry was cool with her walking, guess again. According to a Fashion Week insider, the CFDA was far from pleased by the news. “The CFDA is extremely upset that Kylie walked in the Abbey Dawn show,” a source said.
“They specifically sent letters to every designer, hand signed by Diane [Von Furstenberg], urging them and stressing the importance of carding models and this just blatantly went against that.” Although the source couldn’t confirm if a letter specifically went out to anyone working on Avril Lavigne‘s Abbey Dawn collection, both Diane (President of the organization), and the CFDA were very vocal about this request — practically everyone in the industry knew about it.
While we understand Kylie is under the age limit and it was so disrespectful to go against the council, Avril’s Abbey Dawn show was more fun — it wasn’t as serious as an actual runway. It isn’t like the teen was being exploited — in fact, her family cheered her on the whole time. I also think her reality star status should be taken into account, which brings me to my next question. Should exceptions be made for certain stars?
What do you think?
