Mayim Bialik STILL Breastfeeds Her 3-Year-Old Son! Is This Wrong Or Perfectly Normal?

The mom-of-two shared a picture of herself breastfeeding three-year-old Fred on the NYC subway — is this weird or what?!

In a new blog post for kveller.com, Mayim Bialik, 35, who best known for starring in Blossom and The Big Bang Theory, admits it may finally be time to start weaning her three-year-old son Fred. Yeah, we’d say so!

Mayim, who also has a six-year-old son Miles, believes in child-led weaning and although she never thought she would be breastfeeding a three-year-old, she doesn’t think there’s anything wrong with it — actually she enjoys it!

“I have written about my now 3-year-old son Fred, and his nursing rhythms before,” Mayim wrote on kveller.com. “To recap: Fred nursed for a solid 12 months with no supplements, no solid foods, and not even a sip of water. He got the hang of eating solids around 18 months, but continued to nurse all day (with bottles of pumped breastmilk when I was at work), and on demand all night. A typical night involved no less than four wake-ups and sometimes six (every 2 hours on the clock for 12 hours of bed time was not unusual). This went on for almost 3 years.”

So, what’s next for Mayim and Fred? Read more on kveller.com!

But what do you think of this HollyMoms? Should a three-year-old still be nursing? Weigh in below!

Breastfeeding is for infants who need nourishment, and receive it no other way. A three-year old can eat a sandwich.

I think it should be the decision of the mother and child how long they nurse and nobody Else’s business!

A 3 year old still taking the bottle will cause bottle mouth, a tooth decaying disease where their teeth rot from the inside out, usually requires dental surgry. And a 3 year old drinking breast milk is perfectly fine but breast feeding for that long can cause confusion to the child.

Totally normal. people who think this is something more than just breastfeed, are the ones whom need help. A baby need contact with the mom, and if the baby and his mom feel confortable breastfeeding him, doesnt matter if he has teeth or not. I breastfeed my daughter untill she was 5 and started pre-school. The SHE decided that breast wasnt her thing anymore.
And my 20 months old daughter will suck my tits fro milk as long as she wants. Sick people who think its wrong.

To Anna who breastfed her child until she was 5, or anyone else who does so, is sick! After a certain age it is totally inappropriate! And to KayKay,you are absolutely right,a 3 yr old child can eat a sandwich or regular table food. And if you feel like your child “absolutely” needs your breast milk after they’re off the bottle, then put it in a darn sippy cup! Any child whether they are 3,4,or 5years of age and still nursing- their mothers need therapy if they think its not inapprpriate.

To Anna,

This alone is an inappropriate and immature way of relating your feelings on the matter. Quote: “my 20 months old daughter will suck my tits fro (for) milk”. I mean really, “suck my tits”? That sounds more like it belongs in a porno, not used when writing about your daughter.

This is totally normal. Breast milk is beneficial to toddlers. I don’t understand why our society is so very, very afraid of breasts.
