The kids, aged between one and seven years old, were sleeping in filthy conditions, crammed among garbage. How could five people live like this?
Justin Hamilton and Kristin Harris have been arrested and charged with child neglect after they were found living with their three children in a car, outside a Walmart store in Florida. One of their kids had to be treated in the hospital for second-degree sunburn! How awful!
Police in Mount Dora, Fl. discovered the family on Monday, August 22, after a tip off and were stunned to find the children sleeping among dirty clothes, old chicken bones and containers of spoiled milk.
Cops also found liquor and illegal prescription pills in the make-shift home.
An ambulance was called for the seven-year-old girl, whose skin was red and blistered, and the other kids, boys aged one and four, were immediately taken into custody.
Hamilton, 31, and Harris, 26, told officers they had been living in the car for three days after a fight with relatives left them homeless.
They denied neglecting their kids, insisting the seven year old had only been out in the sun “for a few hours.”
Both parents have criminal records, Hamilton for drug possession, attempting to sell cocaine and carrying a fictitious drivers license and Harris for drug possession and theft.
An emergency custody hearing for the kids was scheduled for Tuesday August 23.
What a terrible tale, HollyMoms. Do these parents deserve a second chance — or are the kids better off in care?
