Pregnant Supermodel Michelle Alves Gives YOU Maternity Fashion Advice!

The model and mommy-of-two, who is currently expecting baby number three, shares her maternity style must-haves and exercise routines with you so you can stay trendy and fit throughout your pregnancy!

Michelle Alves, who’s appeared in magazines from Vogue to Sports lllustrated, hit the runway for Victoria’s Secret and works with designers like Michael Kors, spoke with HollyBaby.com exclusively about her fashion staples and lets YOU know how to stay in supermodel shape before, during and after pregnancy!

What are your maternity wear staples?

I live in James Perse long tanks and American Apparel cotton dresses from the beginning. Later on in my pregnancy, I like to wear the 7 For All Mankind jeans with an elastic band and tops from DVF’s maternity line.

What sorts of clothes work well for pregnant women?

It depends on a woman’s height. I like long and short dresses that are well shaped around the bust and loose on the body. If you are tall, flared pants work well, but if you are shorter, I think leggings under long tops work best.

When it’s cold I like a wool tight dress or a long sweater with stockings and boots. I also love a good cardigan. The style that doesn’t close in the front and just hangs loose is the best because people don’t even notice you are pregnant.

How do you keep in shape throughout your pregnancy?

The most important is how you were keeping in shape before you got pregnant. It’s much easier to get your body back if you had the body you wanted before your pregnancy. During pregnancy, I like to swim and do yoga and Pilates.

How do you lose the baby weight? Diet? Exercise?

To help lose the baby weight after pregnancy I breastfeed for at least a year which can help you burn up to 600 calories a day.

I don’t start exercising until one month after giving birth. I give my body a chance to recover first and then I do Pilates and alternate walking with jogging using weights. Slowly I get back into the rhythm that I was in before getting pregnant.

One important thing I learned was not to indulge yourself too much (that counts for during pregnancy too!)

What are your beauty essentials?

I like to use oils for the body and an amazing moisturizing skin cream from the line, Vanicream.

What kind of mom are you?

I’m a very hands-on mom. I’m Brazilian and we like to cuddle and give a ton of hugs and kisses. We travel a lot, so we try to maintain a regular routine when we are at home. We want each of our children to have a good heart and be courageous. Despite the fact that I am a mom, I don’t forget that I’m also a woman and a wife. I like to look good and feel both healthy and sexy. I make sure to also create some time for myself, it’s important to really be a successful mother.
