Happy Birthday, Madonna! You're 53 Today, August 16!

The international superstar is 53 today — her and son Rocco’s birthdays are around the corner from each other!

Believe it or not, Madonna released her debut album in 1983, followed by numerous hit records after that. She’s been around for a long time! Some of her biggest singles include “Like A Virgin,” “Vogue” and “Hung Up.” She’s praised by critics everywhere for her diverse taste in music and driving religious controversy — hey Lady Gaga, sound familiar? Madonna is recognized as the world’s top-selling female recording artist of all time by the Guinness World Records. She is right up there with fellow recording artists Barbara Streisand and The Beatles.

In 1996, the star gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Lourdes. Four years later she gave birth to her son Rocco, who she had with British film director Guy Ritchie. Madonna also has two adopted children, David and Mercy.
