Katy Perry‘s celebrity colorist, NYC salon owner and famous fixture in the industry, Rita Hazan, tells YOU everything you would need to know about Katy going from jet black to light lavender! Keep reading to see what Rita has to say.
So what inspired Katy to go with such a wacky, wild color?
“Katy wanted a huge change and was feeling lavender. It’s such a great, fun color and works amazing with her skin tone,” explains Rita.
What is the process like for going from super dark to very light?
“Going from black to a lighter shade is a major process. You have to strip the black from the hair and go in phases of color in order to keep hair healthy. And in each phase, the color has to look the best it can for the time you wear it.”
How long should this take to complete?
“Katy Perry is a celebrity so she needs fast results, but you should expect this process to take 3-5 months to maintain healthy hair. You should do intense conditioning treatments in between each stage of dying.”
How can we keep our hair from looking totally fried throughout the process?
“Always use products for color treated hair, like a mask or oil treatment, at least 1-2x a week. I like Shu Uemera Silk Bloom Shampoo and Conditioner and Phyto Nectar Oil for treatment.”
What does Katy think of the color?
“Katy loves her color! She is so happy that she went through all the pain of stripping – having red and blonde hair – to get to her favorite color lavender.”
Will we see the shade stick around on her for a while now?
“I think now that she knows how fun hair color is you will see her having fun with it”
