Big milestones happened for MTV’s teen moms this week! Farrah made a new addition to her brood, Ryan confronted Maci about Kyle moving in, and Catelynn helped other young moms cope with adoption!
Trust is an important part of every relationship, especially for MTV’s Teen Moms! On Aug. 9, the moms realized the importance of trust in their lives, and learned the consequences of violating the sacred principle. Farrah Abraham broke her mom’s trust buying a puppy, Catelyn Lowell dealt with fears of betrayal, Maci Bookout hurt Ryan and Kyle by withholding her living arrangements, and Gary disappointed everyone when he showed up hungover to Leah’s party!
Farrah was ecstatic to learn that her grades were high enough for her to graduate culinary school and decided that she deserved a reward for all her hard work. She thought that Sofia needed a new playmate, and instead of having another baby Farrah thought a puppy would be the perfect addition to their little family. The only problem was Farrah’s mom/landlord strictly prohibited her from owning pets, so Farrah tried to keep the puppy a secret. Hilarity ensued when Sofia kept saying “doggie” to anyone who’d listen and Farrah attempted potty training the puppy with diapers and toilets. Eventually the gig was up and Farrah’s mother discovered her new four-legged family member. Fortunately Farrah’s mother was won over by the puppy’s charms, and accepted the surprise pet a lot easier than she did with Farrah’s unplanned pregnancy.
Maci tried to master the art of deception and conceal from Ryan that Kyle had moved into her apartment. But after seeing Kyle consistently at Maci’s place, Ryan’s family started to wonder if he was a permanent fixture. To get to the bottom of it, Ryan confronted Maci and told her that he was upset she didn’t tell him. All the sneaking around also took a toll on Maci’s relationship with Kyle who was distant after Maci’s visit with Bentley’s baby daddy. Ryan and his parents are starting to strongly consider taking Maci to court for more control over Bentley’s life.
Catelynn and Tyler felt guilty that they were drifting away from Carly’s birth parents because they were so preoccupied with their new work schedules. To help work through the process, Catelynn returned to the weekend retreat for birth moms to help sort out her feelings and support other teen moms who chose adoption. At the retreat, Catelynn began to worry that Carly’s parents will eventually close the adoption and take away their visitation rights. But after working with counselors she learned that she needs to trust them in order to keep their relationship successful and remain an active part of Carly’s life.
Amber’s rocky relationship with Gary was at an all time high when he denied her an invite to Leah’s second birthday party. The estranged couple originally planned to throw the birthday bash together, but at the last minute Gary decided that it would be too hard for Leah to see her parents together. Amber begrudgingly obliged, but was horrified when she discovered the night before Leah’s party Gary stayed out to the wee hours of the morning drinking and dancing with girls. He “cared” enough for Leah to not want her to be confused by their relationship drama, but didn’t care enough to not be hungover at her birthday party. Amber made up for Gary’s despicable behavior by spoiling Leah with a delectable dinner and plenty of princess toys.
Overall, I enjoyed this week’s episode and thought that Farrah and Catelynn are really growing in their journey as teen moms. I think it was wrong of Maci to not tell Ryan that Kyle moved in, but I also feel it’s unfair that Ryan’s family is so upset because Ryan is a serial dater who is always bringing women in and out of Bentley’s life. Kyle is the only man Maci has been serious with since her split from Ryan and plans to have him as a stable fixture in her and Bentley’s lives.
The most appalling part of the episode was Gary’s behavior. While Amber was working hard to set her life back on track, Gary was hellbent on derailing her. He used Leah’s party as leverage to try and get Amber to reconsider their relationship and guilt her into working it out. To make matters worse, while Amber was home moping about being away from Leah, Gary was out partying with girls and got so drunk that he was hungover for the party. He couldn’t even help his mom prepare! What kind of dad is that?
Tell us what you thought of the episode! Do YOU think Amber is a better parent than Gary?
