Demi Lovato’s onscreen mother is glad Demi Lovato told her story and is getting the support she needs.

Growing up under the pressures of Hollywood is tough, but it’s nice to have the support of your family to get through the hard times — even when they aren’t blood related. Hollywoodlife.com talked to Maria Canals-Barrera — who played Demi Lovato‘s mom onscreen in Camp Rock — and said she still keeps tabs on the 18-year-old actress.

“Demi went through some stuff, you know I played her mom on Camp Rock, I’m just so proud of her for getting the help that she needs,” said Maria.

Maria, who has also had the honor of mothering Demi’s fellow teen queen Selena Gomez on the set of Wizards of Waverly Place, said  even when some of her younger co-stars go through “rocky times,” they are still great kids to the core. Maria says that she is so close to the kids she works with, her own children treat her co-stars like family!

“They have a relationship with them. Selena plays with them and talks to them,” Maria said about Selena being a role model for her own children.

It’s reassuring to know not all young Disney starlets find themselves on the wrong side of Hollywood, and that many of the young and talented actresses in the industry are maintaining their values as they enter their adult years. Tell us what YOU thought of Maria’s interview! Do YOU think today’s generation of rising starlets are good role models?
