We can’t believe Leah would smoke a cigarette directly next to her twin girls, especially when Ali already suffers from health issues! Do you think she should stop smoking ASAP?
There’s no doubt that Teen Mom 2 star Leah Messer is a good mother — she’s given up a lot recently to make sure her 19-month-old twin daughters, Aleeah and Aliannah, live a happy life. But seriously, why would she ever put her babies’ health at risk by smoking cigarettes RIGHT next to them? It just NOT ok!
“Babies exposed to second hand smoke after birth are more likely to die from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and are at greater risk for asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, ear infections and respiratory infections,” Dr. Tara A. Solomon tells HollyBaby.com.
To make matters worse, one of Leah’s daughters, Aliannah, suffers from development issues and struggles with her eye sight and leg and arm movements. Smoking could cause her even more health problems in the future!
“Smoking is an unhealthy habit for parents and their kids,” Ari Brown, MD, author of the Expecting 411 series tells HollyBaby.com. “Unless you smoke outside your house, then come back inside and change clothes before picking up your little one, your child is breathing your second hand smoke.”
“Children whose parents smoke are also more likely to wheeze or have asthma,” Dr. Brown adds. “There’s also research that shows babies of smoking parents experience more colic, sleep less, and have a greater risk of obesity. If you can’t stop for your own health, do it for your child!”
Leah, make sure your baby girls are safe! They shouldn’t be surrounded by family members who smoke!

First let me state that I do think the media is being a tad harsh on her. Secondly let me say that I am a smoker myself. My feelings on this whole situation are as follows: I think it’s wrong to smoke inside with children (whether they’re outside play or gone for the day..because it stays on surfaces and is just as bad as them being present) and I believe it’s wrong to smoke in the car with children too. It effects your child’s health more than you would think (I’ve done a lot of research about it) for what you to have the convenience of smoking where you want..well let me break it to you gently- if you care more about your own convenience & cravings then you do your child’s health than you got a problem. BUT it does appear like Leah and her daughters are outdoors in this photo where she is smoking, and neither of them are in her arms which is not entirely terrible. I myself have smoked in an outdoor setting near my son playing before just blow the smoke away from them and remember to change your clothes as stated above and that way you are only damaging your own health. Oh, and one more thing, your child is effected way more by cigarette smoke than adults..especially during the first year of life when their lungs are still developing outside of the womb!!!
