J.P. tells Ashley: ‘In order for me to overcome that fear, I have to take a leap of faith and that’s exactly what this is. This is my leap of faith.’
Bachelorette Ashley Hebert is happily engaged to J.P. Rosenbaum. J.P. gets down on one knee and proposes during the Aug. 1 finale — and Ashley says, “Yes!” But this fairytale ending only comes after Ashley breaks Ben Flajnik‘s heart!
The drama kicks into action when J.P.gets to meet Ashley’s family first. Right off the bat, Ashley’s sister Chrystie drills him about if he’s smitten. “Completely, I have been for a while,” J.P. responds happily. But red flags quickly go up when Ashley doesn’t say that J.P. makes her laugh.
“I don’t think he’s for you,” Chrystie tells Ashley after only about 15 minutes of watching Ashley interact with J.P. “Just the way you are with him — I’m not seeing it. I think you’re too much for him. You’re too young, he’s a little bit older and a little bit more demure.”
Ashley breaks down over this.” I really really care about him,” Ashley cries. “I value your opinion. I hoped today would provide me with some clarity. My heart’s a little broken.”
Chrystie takes J.P. aside and blatantly tells him that she doesn’t see him stepping up and handling Ashley’s energy — and adds that she thinks Ashley got along better with Brad Womack.
J.P. leaves the interaction destroyed and questioning Ashley. “I wanted her to say, Don’t worry I’m not going to let that affect us,’” he shares. “To have her question things now — if today changes her mind about me, then I’m definitely not proposing.”
Ashley tries to talk to Chrystie about what’s going on. She feels like Chrystie is “against” her. “You come across like you’re being such a b*tch,” Ashley cries again. “I feel so alone. I don’t feel like I have a sister.” Chrystie maintains that she’s just looking out for Ashley.
Ben meets the family next. Ashley’s sister takes to Ben much better than she did with J.P. “I see Ashley being herself which is refreshing,” Chrystie tells Ben. “That connection is there. I think Ashley would have anything but a dull life with Ben.”
Ashley continues by going on her last date with Ben. They go to a healing mud bath and cover each other in sludge as they make out. During the evening part of their date, Ben finally tells her that he’s in love.
The next day, Ashley has her last date with J.P. Despite what happened with Ashley’s sister, J.P. tells Ashley that he’s “madly in love” with her. He also gives her a scrapbook of their relationship with a beautiful love inscription.
Before her happy ending can take place, Ashley says goodbye to Ben. Ben gets down on one knee and asks: “Will you marry me? Make me the happiest man?” “I’m sorry. I know that this is unexpected I want you to know that this is the hardest thing I’ve done,” Ashley replies shaken up.
Ben freaks out. “I guess that’s it right?” he says and starts to storm off. “I don’t need you to sugarcoat it. You can’t leave this on good terms. I don’t know how you want me to feel. Right now I’m in shock. Good things don’t end unless they end badly.”
Thankfully J.P. makes everything so much better when he arrives.
“I remember getting out of the limo,” he tells Ashley. “I was afraid, not knowing what to expect. The hardest thing has been not knowing. I’m an open book. I’m still afraid. I don’t think about forever. But also in order for me to overcome that fear, I have to take a leap of faith and that’s exactly what this is. This is my leap of faith. All the time we’ve spent together, it’s been the happiest of my life. I smile because of you. I am madly in love with you. I love everything about you.”
“I’ve been wanting to tell you how much I love you for so long now,” Ashley gushes. “I don’t want to be with anyone else forever.”
J.P. proposes. “I’m so in love with you. You’re the one. You’re it. Ashley, will you marry me?” J.P. asks.
“Yes!” she answers — and they kiss! Ashley hands J.P. her final rose!

This was just one in a line of horrible seasons. They trick us each week to watch with trailers that never show what they claim they will and complete hype. Ashley you have a bottomless pit for an ego and I feel so sorry for Ben for having to get down on his knee only to have you say no! You could have stopped him, but that would not have built your ego now would it? I can’t even watch this show anymore. I tape it, only to watch the rose ceremony and I taped the last, only to see who she chose. I stopped watching when Ashley was told NOT to believe a word Bently said and the fool declares her love for him! Please!
