Amy Winehouse Was Adopting A Poor Saint Lucian Child Before She Died!

Amy really was trying to turn her life around — she had such a good heart!

Amy Winehouse may have died in a haze of rumors of drug abuse, but before her death she seemed to be changing her ways. In fact, she was hoping to adopt an adorable little Saint Lucian girl!

Amy, who was 27, met 10-year-old Dannika Augustine while visiting the island, the Daily Mirror reports. Dannika was living in poverty with her single mother at the time, and Amy was midway through the process when she passed away suddenly on July 23.

“Amy was already my mother,” Dannika said. “I would call her mom and she would call me her daughter. She took care of me and we had fun together. I loved her and she loved me. She was the most amazing person and I was looking forward to living with her here or in London. I cannot believe she is gone. This is the worst thing that ever happened to me.”

Dannika’s grandmother Marjorie Lambert, is also heartbroken by the loss.

“Amy loved Dannika with all her heart,” she said. “I don’t know why Amy took to Dannika above all the other children on the island, but from the moment they met they were inseparable. They would spend all day playing, horse-riding and walking up and down the beach hand-in-hand. Amy used to beg me: ‘I want to adopt Dannika. I want to take her to England.’ She was prepared to move to St Lucia to be her full-time mum. Amy wanted to have a child so bad. If she had not died, there is no doubt she would be here in St Lucia completing the adoption process. There is no way she would have done what she did to herself if Dannika was with her.”

What do you think, HollywoodLifers — was Amy truly committed to turning her life around?

UPDATE: A rep for the late singer tells Us Weekly “she was not in the process of legally adopting anyone.”

I liked her music & stuff but lets face it she was a drug addict, a well known one aswell, just because she was famous don’t mean she should be allowed to adopt a child, no other drug addict would be allowed too.

We shouldn’t judge her now that she’s dead! Gosh people! Sure she was totally addicted to drugs and what-what, but that didn’t mean she didn’t love the girl. Maybe she was different around her. People affect people. I don’t quite see what would have been wrong had she been adopted. With a lot of help from her and the girl’s family and minders, Amy might just have done good. And if these reports a legit, she really loved the girl.

Surely social services would have done research on Amy’s background, it would be a nightmare if the child had been adopted by Winehouse.

That girl doesn’t know how narrowly she escaped [if this story is true that is]Amy Winehouse was a very selfish person who would have been a terrible mother. Everyone is saying that Amy was going to turn her life around, but I don’t believe it. If by some miracle Amy was allowed to adopt that little girl she would have messed her up badly.
