The 29-year-old silver medalist called emergency dispatch to tell them he was going to shoot himself.
Jeret “Speedy” Peterson — who won the silver medal in the men’s freestyle aerial competition at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver — was found dead next to his car in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 25. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, just days after being arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
Not only did Jeret, 29, leave a suicide note, but he also placed a call to emergency dispatch to tell them he was going to shoot himself. Though the contents of the note won’t be released to the public, it’s possible he was distraught over being arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor drunk driving three days earlier.
