Could Psoriasis Ruin Kim Kardashian's Career?

Tue, July 26, 2011 9:19am EDT by 34 Comments

Kim K was recently diagnosed with psoriasis, a skin condition that causes thick redness and irritation of the skin — could it cause the end of her image based career?

Kim Kardashian may have to take time out of her busy schedule — which includes planning for her wedding and protecting her image from clothing lines — in order to treat her mild case of psoriasis.  Psoriasis is a common condition that causes irritated skin to flake off.  Could this disease ruin Kim’s image?

On the most recent episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim rushed to the doctor after she noticed red bumps on her legs.  “I have this rash.  Khloe seems to think that it’s ring worm and I don’t even know what that is,” she explains to Beverly Hills dermatologist Dr. Harold Lancer.

However, Kim cannot even comprehend when the doctor tells her she has psoriasis.  “Psoriasis?  I cannot have psoriasis.”  She begins to question how this will affect her career.  “My career is doing ad campaigns and swimsuit photoshoots.  People don’t understand the pressure on me to be perfect.”

The skin disease can be caused by many factors: dry air, over-consumption of alcohol, too little or too much sunlight, and viral infections.  However, the biggest factor is stress, which Kim has had a lot of having to plan for her upcoming wedding, on top of staying “perfect” in the spotlight.

Do you HollywoodLifers think psoriasis will damage Kim’s career?

I watched the episode about her psoriasis. I was appalled at the whiny cry-baby display she put on. I hope she had the decency to be embarrased too when she saw the tape. A controllable skin disease is no big deal especially when clearly it could be covered by makeup. Plus with all the airbrushing and photoshopping that goes on no on would ever know until she opens her big mouth. Be thankful it wasn’t something so much worse.

Psoriasis is SO much more than a treatable skin condition — do some research. It’s an auto-immune disease — which means your own body it attacking itself. It can have SEVERE complications, including psoriatic arthritis, which can leave a person crippled. Get your facts straight before you start thinking Psoriasis is a disease that only affects your looks.

Dear kim, who the hell knows if your actual going to read this comment or not but I met a pharmaceutical rep who once had psoriasis who now is free of it. I asked him what he did he said at that time his dermatoligist said (ofcourse) he has to start hormone therapy. which is a typical md’s answer but he decided to seek other methods of treatments he went to an oriental homeopathic specialist and the guy told him to stop eating animal products completely and thats what he did, he followed this regiment for 2 years and it cured him he now eats meat and cheese but not the way he used to eat it before. hope this helps good luck.

Get over yourself. Fighting “battle” with psoriasis. If you had to ever deal with a real problems you would nto know what to do. You spend so much time in your little drama world of ridiculous behavior. Have you ever done anything valuable. You seem very narcisistic. I feel sorry for you. You may be pretty but that is all you have There are so many more important things in life. If psoriasis is such a big deal wait until you start to age and beuty fades. That will be a real problem for you to deal with and no one will care.

Living with Psoriasis IS a battle. Trust someone who’s had it most of their life. It usually only gets worse and can have significant effects on your health, sometimes leading to even more serious health problems. It’s not just a rash, it’s a serious Auto-immune Disorder.

Im a 19 year old with psoriasis, and let me tell you, it is a daily battle. I’ve had an outbreak for 3 months so far that is all over my legs, back, arms, hands, and starting on my face. The steroid creams control it, but it still looks really bad and hurts. I have to cover everything up at work, which makes it unconfortably hot. You wouldn’t believe the looks and snide comments I get when they see my hands. It causes you to itch all of the time, nothing takes it away besides a pill that Knocks you out. It’s not a real life problem? Try living with it FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. It causes you to be incredibly self conscious and depressed. Not to mention sleep deprived because the itching and pain keep you up at night.

I have Psoriasis. She’s lucky it’s only mild because I know some people who suffer from severe psoriasis. My Psoriasis affects my scalp (they are mistaken for dandruff), eyes, ears, back and nose… Yes, they are no cure but moisturizing is key!

My father had psoriasis for years and it can be a severe problem to deal with and by the way, there is no cure. I’m saying that it will cover your entire body and become thick as it builds creating layers and layers of scabs and bleeding and shedding all over. It’s a nightmare, so I hope Kim doesn’t have to go through any of this. I think she’s a very beautiful young lady and that’s why she’s so popular. People like to look at pretty women etc…Best of luck to Kim and I just adore her and her entire family!

Kim needs to focus on slowing down her lifestyle. the Dr. is correct. He did not tell her but it can affect any part of her body. Avoiding stress and the use of cover cosmetics will allow her to continue her career.

Since Kim’s mother has Psoriasis she is going to have to struggle to deal with this image problem, but she can take heart because with her high profile, she will be in demand for commercials for Psoriasis treatments.

If you know her though, please suggest she take the time to follow medical advice and to try some of the treatments for suspected instigators of psoriasis like fungal infections. Individuals respond with different degrees of success to the same treatments, so she should not assume if a treatment approach doesn’t work that a different one will not.

I CSNNOT BELIEVE THAT HEADLINE. PSORASIS CAN BE TREATED AND IF SHE FOLLOWS THE DOCTORS ORDERS IT SHOULD NOT HURT HER IN ANYWAY.
HER PROBLEM IS BEING SO SELF CENTERED. GET A LIFE KIM AND JUST BE YOU. WITH THE WAY THE THINGS ARE IN AMERICA NOW NO ONE REALLY CARES ABOUT YOUR ND YOUR RASH. JUST GET MARRIED WITHOUT ALL THE FLUFF, AND LIVE A NORMAL LIFE. WE HAVE TOO MANY OTHER THINGS TO WORRY ABOUT THAN YOU. GET OFF THE CENTER STAGE.

I can’t believe the ignorance of some people. Do some RESEARCH. Psoriasis can cause SEVERE debilitating problems, including a form of arthritis that can leave you CRIPPLED. How is this not a serious disease?
