In a recent radio interview, Demi Lovato explains why she felt bad when kids looked up to her during her time on Disney and how after dealing with her emotional and physical issues, she feels more like a role model than ever!
For years, Demi Lovato was secretly struggling with major emotional and physical issues — like bulimia, anorexia, cutting and bipolar disorder — all while living life in the spotlight as one of the most popular tween starlets on the Disney Channel. Now she explains how keeping her fans in the dark about her problems made her feel like a horrible role model for her young fans to look up to.
“Kids used to tell me, ‘You’re my role model.’ And I’d want to shake them and be like, ‘Whyyyyyy?’,” the 18-year-old singer and actress said.
However, since speaking publicly about what happened and encouraging her fans to stay strong and live healthy lives, Demi has actually become the role model she always wanted to be.
“I finally feel like I can inspire people,” she admitted, “I can be proud of it.”
